但如果我设身处地,站在那些对积极影响不太乐观、或更担心权贵利用新技术主导经济统治和施加控制、或两者兼有的人的立场呢?例如,我已经对智能家居产品持有这种感受,能够与灯泡对话的好处,被我不愿将个人生活流向 Google 或 Apple 的担忧所抵消。

如果我有更悲观的假设,我也能想象自己对某些媒体技术持有类似感受:如果它们让权贵比其他人更有效地广播信息,那么它们可被用于施加控制并淹没他人,对于许多此类技术,我们从更好信息或更好娱乐中获得的收益,不足以补偿它们重新分配权力的方式。

开源作为第三条路径

我认为在这些情况下被严重低估的一种观点是:仅支持开源方式开发的技术。

开源加速进步的论点非常可信:它让人们更容易在彼此创新基础上构建。同时,要求开源会减缓进步的论点也非常可信:它阻止人们使用大量潜在盈利策略。

但开源最有趣的后果是那些与进步快慢无关的方向:

  • 开源改善访问平等。如果某物是开源的,它自然可供任何国家任何人访问。对于实体商品和服务,人们仍需支付边际成本,但许多情况下,专有产品的价格高企是因为发明该物的固定成本太高,无法吸引更多竞争,因此边际成本往往相当低廉,制药业就是如此。

  • 开源改善成为生产者的访问平等。一种批评是,向人们免费提供终端产品并不能帮助这些人获得技能和经验,从而攀升全球经济进入繁荣,这是持久获得高质量生活的真正可靠保障。开源并非如此,它本质上是为了让世界任何地方的人能够在供应链的所有环节成为生产者,而非仅是消费者。

  • 开源改善可验证性。如果某物是开源的,在理想情况下,不仅包括输出,还包括发明它的过程、参数选择等,那么更容易验证你获得的是提供者声称的那个,并让第三方研究识别隐藏缺点。

  • 开源消除供应商锁定的机会。如果某物是开源的,制造商无法通过远程移除功能或单纯破产使它无用,如高度计算机化 / 联网汽车在制造商关闭后无法工作。你始终有权自己修复或请求其他提供者。

我们可以从文章开头列举的一些更激进技术的视角分析这一点:

开源与滥用风险

Is RWA Still Meaningful Without DeFi?
