Crypto YouTube views sink to 5-year lows, ‘it’s not just X’

Crypto content viewership on YouTube has plunged over the past three months, signaling bear market conditions as retail interest in crypto continues to decline. 
 
 
 
 
Viewership of crypto content on YouTube has declined to its lowest level since January 2021 following a sharp retreat over the past three months.

On Sunday, ITC Crypto founder Benjamin Cowen shared a 30-day moving average of views across various crypto YouTube channels, highlighting the drop. 

“So it’s not just X and an algorithm change,” he said regarding a similar fall in engagement across crypto channels on microblogging platform X.

It has “collapsed across all platforms, and has had a noticeable local decline since just October,” commented crypto YouTuber Tom Crown. 

“In reality, it’s been in a ‘bear market’ since 2021, having never reached even near those highs.”
“This is literally bear market levels of social interest,” said Bitcoin investor “Polaris XBT.” 

The trend also reinforces the premise that institutions have been driving markets this cycle, with retail taking a back seat.

BNY’s recent move is part of a broader trend in global finance.

As the initial “hype” around Central Bank Digital Currencies (CBDCs) gives way to real adoption, BNY’s launch of tokenized deposits represents the first step in what could become a wave of banks following suit.

In this context, Ripple being chosen as an “early adopter” is a strong signal of its growing role in digital finance. In line with this, XRP ETFs reaching $1 billion in AUM is an early sign of rising institutional interest too.

Notably, XRP’s price performance adds context to this trend.

From a technical lens, despite closing 2025 down 12% and facing a market pullback, XRP ETFs have still gathered $1 billion in assets since their launch in November.

Large Bitcoin holders are cutting back long exposure just as a familiar market structure begins to reappear. Data from TradingView shows that long positions held by so-called Bitfinex whales peaked near 73,000 BTC in late December before rolling over. Since then, those positions have started to unwind.

Whales on Bitfinex are often tracked as a proxy for leveraged “smart money” behavior. Their positioning has a history of shifting ahead of large directional moves in price, particularly during late-stage consolidation phases. The latest reduction in longs comes with Bitcoin trading around the low $90,000 range, a zone that has already absorbed weeks of sideways price action.

Past cycles show that whale long exposure does not always fall because of bearish conviction. In several cases, heavy long unwinds cleared excess leverage before a renewed move higher.
