Standard Chartered raised its forecast on Ethereum on Monday, saying it could hit $40,000 by 2030. He also believes that ETH’s growth this year will outperform Bitcoin, driven by improving relative fundamentals in the market.



The bank’s Head of Digital Assets Research, Geoff Kendrick, stated that the prospects for Ethereum in 2026 have significantly improved. He also anticipates that the digital asset will cross and gradually return to its 2021 highs.

The $100,000 Milestone: A Matter of Time
Several technical indicators suggest that Bitcoin’s recent consolidation phase is nearing its conclusion. Crypto analyst Jelle recently noted that Bitcoin has successfully established a "new higher low," a fundamental requirement for sustained bullish momentum. By holding support above the $90,000 range and neutralizing excessive open interest, the market has effectively "reset," clearing the path for an assault on the six-figure mark.
This sentiment is echoed by Captain Faibik and other chartists who emphasize the importance of reclaiming the $72,000 resistance level as a launchpad. Once this level is converted into support, the path to $100,000 becomes a technical likelihood rather than a speculative hope.

World Liberty Financial Launches Cryptocurrency Lending Platform as DeFi Market Rebounds



World Liberty Financial, the decentralized finance project linked to President Donald Trump's family, has entered the cryptocurrency lending market with the launch of World Liberty Markets.

The new platform allows users to lend and borrow digital assets, marking a major expansion for the controversial crypto venture.

The lending service went live on Monday, January 12, 2026, powered by Dolomite, an established DeFi protocol. Users can now lend and borrow several cryptocurrencies including World Liberty’s USD1 stablecoin, ETH, USDC, USDT, and tokenized Bitcoin. The platform currently operates on the Ethereum blockchain, with plans to expand to additional networks in the future.

Meta to cut 10% of metaverse arm this week amid AI push: Report

Meta is reportedly set to lay off around 10% of staff from its metaverse arm this week, as the tech giant focuses its resources on artificial intelligence.

Meta could announce the cuts as soon as Tuesday, the New York Times reported on Monday, citing sources.

Meta’s Reality Labs has around 15,000 staff members. The division focuses on virtual reality (VR) gear such as headsets, as well as operating the firm’s metaverse platforms Horizon Worlds and Horizon Workrooms.

Around 10% of the division’s employees are expected to be cut, around 1,500 people.

Cointelegraph has reached out to Meta for comment.

Meta cutting metaverse budget

Meta has been making gradual cuts to its metaverse budget over the past year as the firm ramped up its focus on artificial intelligence (AI).

In early December, Meta’s shares spiked after reports emerged that the firm was potentially slashing 30% from its metaverse budget and reallocating the funds to AI.

The NYT report also states that Meta plans to reallocate some of its money from Reality Labs to increase the budget of its wearables division, which focuses on smart glasses and wrist-worn devices such as the Meta Neural Band.
