Previously, only options on single crypto asset commodity trusts were permitted, but this has now been expanded to support options on trusts holding multiple crypto assets. The prerequisites for listing are that each crypto asset held by the trust must individually meet high liquidity standards—having an average daily market value of at least $700 million over the past 12 months—and the derivative contracts of that crypto asset must be under a comprehensive surveillance sharing agreement with the trading platform. Trust shares must comply with the initial and ongoing listing standards for ETF options set by the trading platform and must be classified as NMS stocks. After review, the SEC concluded that this rule change would provide investors with greater exposure to and hedging tools for crypto assets without the need for additional SEC approval each time, thereby enhancing market efficiency.
