Bitcoin [$BTC] has finally crossed the $80,000 resistance level last seen in early February 2026. At press time it was trading at $80,836.16 after a hike of over 20% in the past month.

At the same time, Bitcoin Dominance [$BTC.D] also surged by 4.38% in the past month and was at 61.21%, as per Trading View data. Even when compared to the half-yearly or year-to-date surges, this represents the highest hike recorded.


Remarking on the same, Kaleo, co-founder of the NFT project LedgArt took to X and noted,

Bitcoin Dominance has slowly and steadily climbed since the market started to bounce at the end of March.

The co-founder also made comparisons to 2020, citing similar trends in $BTC.D. During that year, Bitcoin also went through its third halving phase.Together, these factors had assisted the buyers back then in bringing the price of Bitcoin to its previous all-time high.

In May 2020, the $BTC.D was trading at about 66%, while the price of Bitcoin was close to $8900. However, by the end of the year, the price had risen to $27,000.

If historical trends continue, it is possible that the price of Bitcoin will reach $100,000. Remarking on which, a well-known trader, Ali Martinez, noted,

$BTC continues to show structural strength. Following a bullish MACD crossover on the weekly chart on April 13, we have already seen a steady 15% price increase.

However, Martinez also noted that breaking the $83,000 resistance is also crucial for that to happen.Additionally, Kaleo also noted that back in 2020, altcoins too had outperformed. Thorne’s comparison reflects a classic carry trade structure, where capital shifts out of lower-yielding assets to capture higher returns elsewhere, with Fed funds on one side and bitcoin-linked instruments on the other. Thorne said on social media platform X:

“At scale, this will look less like a niche crypto trade and more like the yen carry trade on steroids.”

Strategy’s Stretch (STRC) pays a variable 11.50% annual dividend in monthly cash. Recent data shows a $99.86 price, an 11.52% effective yield, and $8.54 billion in notional value. Thirty-day average trading volume stands at $374.3 million, while volatility remains at 3.1%. The privacy coin Zcash (ZEC) surged past the $400 mark for the first time since late January amid renewed chatter regarding the privacy narrative. According to market data, ZEC rallied to $424 late Sunday (May 3, 9:35 p.m. EDT), outperforming the rest of the cryptocurrency market, which added more than $50 billion to its total market capitalization.

Although the coin gradually retreated to $414, it remained up nearly 8% over a 24-hour period, making it one of the day’s top gainers among high-cap altcoins. The jump also pushed ZEC’s weekly gains to approximately 17%. It joined Dogecoin (12%) as one of only two high-cap altcoins to post double-digit gains over that period.

The latest climb by ZEC continues a recovery trend that began shortly after March 8, when the asset tumbled below $200 for the first time since Oct. 9, 2025. Despite previously leading the privacy sector, ZEC eventually relinquished its position as the top privacy coin by market cap to rival Monero ( XMR) following a spike in XMR’s value earlier this year.

However, since hitting its year-to-date low, ZEC has risen by over 100%. Its market capitalization is now nearing $7 billion, closing the gap with XMR.As seen in the final quarter of 2025, ZEC’s sudden surge appears tied to remarks from industry influencers and key participants. In the latest cycle, Barry Silbert, founder of DCG and chairman of Grayscale, appears to be leading those promoting the coin. On May 3, writing on X in response to a user drawing parallels to bitcoin’s price action in 2015, Silbert said:
