"BTC is still strengthening its bear trend."

Woo described volatility as a key metric used by quantitative analysts to detect structural changes in market direction. The accompanying chart he posted, which plots the weekly price of bitcoin against volatility peaks since 2013, shows that major bear markets were preceded by sharp increases in volatility in 2014-2015, 2018-2019, and 2022. In each case, volatility increased rapidly at the beginning of the downturn, peaked in the middle-to-late phase, and then declined as the price reached a macroeconomic low. The current reading shows volatility increasing again from relatively low levels, a pattern Woo interprets as characteristic of an initial bear phase rather than a completed correction.
