Recent on-chain data highlights the scale of this back-and-forth. Approximately 488,599 HYPE, valued at $17.18 million at the time, moved from FalconX to a newly created wallet.

Transfers of this nature—out of exchanges and into private wallets—typically point to a longer-term holding strategy, as they reduce immediate sell-side liquidity. In isolation, the move leans bullish.

However, the transaction followed closely behind a sizeable sell-off of roughly 450,000 HYPE, worth $15.52 million, executed within a similar window.

While the inflow marginally outweighs the outflow, the proximity of both transactions underscores the indecision among large holders.

Such visibility into whale positioning often shapes broader market behavior. Traders tend to mirror these flows, amplifying short-term volatility as liquidity shifts rapidly between buying and selling pressure.

The accumulation trend holds
Despite the recent sell-side activity, underlying data suggests that accumulation remains intact.

Spot Exchange Netflow—which measures the movement of assets into and out of centralized exchanges—shows that around $11.7 million worth of HYPE has exited exchanges over the past three days.

This trend typically reflects growing investor preference to hold rather than sell.

Yet, the higher timeframe price action was at an interesting place where a price bounce could not be ruled out completely.

The swing moves on the 3-day timeframe were captured in white. The latest bounce amid the downtrend came in February and was incomplete. There’s a reason why it is considered incomplete.

In October 2025, when the swing structure was bullish, Bitcoin made a double top at $124.4k. This inability to continue the uptrend was an early warning sign of weakness from the bulls.

Subsequently, the swing structure shifted bearishly after the $107.2k low was breached in early November.

Consider the price action since February. The $60k swing low resulted in a bounce that has not climbed above the 50% retracement level.

Many analysts consider the area above the 50% retracement as “premium,” and a move into this area is more likely to result in the next bearish swing move.

The threshold was at $78.9k, and the latest bounce only reached $76k. After this bounce, Bitcoin has not yet climbed below the $60k swing low.

Collectively, the two factors led MARA to lose the third spot to Metaplanet.

Metaplanet's 2026-2027 plan

But Metaplanet's broader plan and long-term goal are way larger. The firm aims to acquire 210K BTC by 2027.

In 2026 alone, it plans to scale its holdings to 100K BTC. Put differently, in the remaining three quarters, it could add an extra 60K BTC.

At current prices, this would imply about $3.96 billion in needed capital to fund the 2026 deficit.

For the 5,075 BTC bought in Q1, the firm said the bid was funded by "capital market activities and operating income." In fact, last month the firm raised $275 million, with an option to increase it to $531 million through selling its stock.
