Bitcoin Profit Booking Highlights a Pattern

A meaningful transition into a sustained Bitcoin rally must be reflected in liquidity-sensitive indicators. One of the most important metrics is the Realized Profit/Loss Ratio based on the 90-day simple moving average. Historically, strong upside phases only emerged once this ratio rose above the 5.0 threshold.

Past mid-cycle recoveries over the last two years followed the same structure. When the ratio failed to hold above this level, rallies quickly lost momentum. A renewed move above 5.0 would indicate fresh capital entering the market. It would also suggest that profit-taking is being absorbed by new demand rather than suppressing price.

Token Terminal, a Web3 analytics platform, has reported that active loans on Ethereum-based lending protocols have surpassed $28 billion.

Active loans measure the value of assets currently borrowed and accruing interest across platforms like Aave, Compound, Morpho, and others on Ethereum.

Ethereum runs away with lending lead

“Active loans across lending platforms on @ethereum recently surpassed $28 billion, up ~10x from January 2023 lows,” a Token Terminal post reads.

Unlike deposits, active loans highlight the networks where onchain lending platforms are operating at scale and producing sustained interest income.

The achievement is further proof of Ethereum’s position as the primary hub for DeFi lending, driven by deep liquidity in established protocols, high trust from users as well as institutions, and network effects from being one of the earliest and most mature DeFi ecosystems.

The figure has generated buzz on X among Ethereum diehards, who continue to praise the ecosystem for attracting users and providing utility rather than just leveraging on hype and old glory.

The lending and borrowing part of Ethereum’s DeFi sector is bustling, but it is not the only aspect seeing real growth. Stablecoin issuers who are using Ethereum as their primary settlement layer have also been generating billions in real revenue.

Last year alone, stablecoin issuers earned approximately $5 billion in revenue attributable to stablecoin supply deployed on Ethereum. Over the year, stablecoin supply on Ethereum reportedly increased by $50 billion, and had already surpassed $180 billion by the fourth quarter.

Big money steps in at $88K - Bitcoin price prediction now hints at whether institutional buying fuels the next breakout.



Bitcoin is trading near $88,600, up about 1.2% on the day, as markets absorb a fresh wave of institutional and regulatory developments that reinforce long-term conviction despite ongoing volatility.

With a market capitalization of $1.77 trillion and nearly 19.98 million BTC already in circulation, recent price action points to stabilization rather than stress following last week’s pullback from the $95,000 area.

Tom Lee advises stopping trying to guess the bottom and starting to buy the dip
HONG KONG — Thomas Lee, chief investment officer of Fundstrat and chairman of the board of BitMine Immersion (BMNR), an ether management company, said in a speech at the Consensus Hong Kong 2026 conference on Wednesday that investors should focus less on pinpointing the bottom and start looking for entry points.

"You should be thinking about opportunities, not sell-offs," Lee said.

$BTC has lost 50% of its value from its October record highs, its worst correction since 2022.

On Wednesday, Bitcoin fell below $67,000, giving back some of last week's low bounce. After a quick turnaround above $72,000 from $60,000 over the weekend, $BTC is down 2.8% in the last 24 hours.  Meanwhile, the price of Ethereum ($ETH$1951.90) fell to $1950, also by about 3%.

"Ideal bottom"

Lee explained the recent weakness in cryptocurrency prices with volatility in the metals markets, which spread to all asset classes. In late January, gold's market capitalization swung by trillions of dollars in a single day, triggering margin calls and putting pressure on risk assets.

After Bitcoin significantly lagged gold in 2025, he argued that the yellow metal has likely peaked for the year, and Bitcoin is poised to outperform it in 2026.

As for Ether ($ETH$1951.90), Lee said that repeated 50 percent drops since 2018 have often been followed by sharp bounces.

 Citing technical analyst Tom DeMark, he stated that ETH might need to dip briefly below $1,800 to form an "ideal bottom" before a more sustainable recovery begins.
