Crypto Market Today: BTC Drops to $78,000; Altcoins ETH, SOL, XRP Follow

Bitcoin slid to $78,131 on Saturday, extending Friday's selloff as surging Treasury yields, a second consecutive day of heavy ETF outflows (-$290M), and a Fear & Greed collapse from 69 to 42 in one week defined the most bearish weekly close of May.

Key Highlights

Bitcoin dropped to ~$78,131 on Saturday, down 1.3% in 24 hours and 2.7% on the week, while Ethereum fell to ~$2,178 (-5.6% on the week, worst among majors) and Solana slid to ~$86.36 (-7.0% 7d) as the total crypto market cap dipped to $2.6 trillion.

U.S. spot Bitcoin ETFs recorded -$290.42M in outflows on May 15 (SoSoValue), led by IBIT at -$136.25M and ARKB at -$52.48M. Ethereum ETFs bled -$65.65M. XRP was the only asset class with positive flows at +$10.87M, confirming a clear divergence between legacy crypto and altcoin ETFs.

The 30-year Treasury yield surged to 5.114% — a 12-month high — while CME futures now price a 44% chance of a Fed rate hike by December. Crypto stocks gave back Thursday’s entire CLARITY Act rally, with COIN down 7.82% and MARA down 6.40% on Friday.

Financial Giant IG Expands UK Crypto Platform to 100+ Digital Assets
IG expanded UK crypto access with more than 50 additional digital assets, bringing its total offering above 100 tokens. The rollout follows regulatory approval for its crypto business and introduces swaps, advanced charting features, and upcoming wallet transfer support.
The London-based trading platform IG announced on May 13 the expansion of its UK cryptocurrency offering with more than 50 additional digital assets. The update lifts its available crypto range to more than 100 assets and adds swap functionality, upgraded charting tools, and planned wallet transfer support for customers.

The expansion follows the firm securing Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) cryptoasset registration in October 2025. UK clients can now access a wider selection of cryptocurrencies through its licensed crypto product. The rollout also introduced swap functionality, allowing customers to exchange one cryptocurrency directly for another.

Institutions Pile Into Onchain Finance

The scale of growth becomes clearer in a historical context because, as reported earlier, the tokenized RWA market cap surged 20 times over during the last three years, reaching $29 billion before the latest milestone. The sector stood at under $2 billion as recently as 2022.

Blackrock’s BUIDL fund has become the standard reference point for institutional RWA adoption. Tokenized U.S. Treasuries recently climbed to $15.20 billion, with Blackrock and Circle leading inflows, a development that Bitcoin.com News has been tracking closely. Government debt now accounts for more than 60% of the tokenized RWA market when measured by protocol assets under management.

The shift signals a maturing ecosystem, given that early tokenization was dominated by government-backed assets with predictable yields. That category remains a key institutional entry point with Ondo Finance’s tokenized Treasury products sitting near $2.7 billion in total value locked, while Circle’s USYC, a yield-bearing product backed by short-duration U.S. government securities, has crossed $2.9 billion.
