Netherlands To Amend Controversial 36% Tax On Unrealized Crypto, Stock Gains

Dutch financial authorities have revealed that the reform bill to tax unrealized gains on crypto, stocks, and other investments will be revised following criticism from lawmakers and local investors.
On Wednesday, the Minister of Finance of the Netherlands, Eelco Heinen, announced that the recently passed bill to tax unrealized gains on crypto and other assets will be reviewed and amended to address multiple concerns brought by the Senate and crypto investors.
I don’t think the law can go through as it stands,” Heinen told local news outlet RTL Nieuws. “I think something has simply gone wrong here, and the current law needs to be amended.”

The Netherlands plans to overhaul its tax system on January 1, 2028. The proposed system, known as the Actual Return in Box 3 Act, is set to tax investors 36% on the change in value of their crypto and other assets each year, even if these have not been sold.

According to the report, the Dutch finance minister noted that there’s still time to amend the controversial tax overhaul, as it will not be enacted until 2028

White House Crypto Summit In Focus Friday, Expert Predicts 3 Major Outcomes

The White House is expected to host another round of talks this Friday between representatives of the crypto industry and major banking institutions, as both sides race to meet a March 1 deadline aimed at advancing the long-delayed crypto market structure bill (CLARITY Act). 

The renewed discussions come after weeks of negotiations in Washington, D.C., where participants have been attempting to bridge a key divide over the treatment of stablecoins.
The dispute has centred on whether stablecoin issuers should be permitted to offer interest on unused token balances. However, as Bitcoinist reported earlier this week, the prospect of paying interest-like returns on dormant stablecoin holdings — a priority for many crypto-native firms — has effectively been ruled out. 

The conversation has instead shifted toward a narrower question: whether companies may provide rewards tied to specific user actions or engagement, rather than simply compensating users for holding balances.

The most immediate bullish signal is the support structure holding at lower levels. B

BCH has tested a critical demand zone multiple times and bounced on each occasion. That repeated defense of support is not coincidental.

Furthermore, it reflects genuine buying interest from larger participants who are accumulating positions before a potential move higher.

The 4-hour chart is also showing a higher lows pattern forming over recent weeks. Each successive low is higher than the last, creating an ascending floor beneath the price.

As seen below, the Bitcoin Cash price is stabilising after a breakdown. Due to that, it was able to breach $500 again, Earlier on, the sell-off was aggressive. BCH price collapsed from $580.58 on Feb 22, breaking out of a descending channel and shedding over 22% in just a few candles.

The Supertrend (10, 3) flipped bearish during the drop and now sits at $470.61, below the current price. However, the green line is below the BCH price, indicating a positive development.

Cryptocurrency investors accused quantitative trading firm Jane Street of pressuring Bitcoin’s price with a daily, programmatic selloff at the US market open, but market analysts and data suggest the pattern is not consistent, and no single firm can force Bitcoin into a prolonged bear market.

The claims surged online a day after Terraform Labs’ court-appointed administrator sued Jane Street, alleging insider trading tied to transactions that worsened the collapse of Terra’s algorithmic stablecoin ecosystem back in May 2022.

Several market watchers, including crypto influencer Justin Bechler, have argued that Jane Street’s holding of BlackRock’s iShares Bitcoin Trust exchange-traded fund (ETF), known as IBIT, could mask a net short Bitcoin position through hedges that do not appear in public filings. Bechler argued that Jane Street conducted coordinated algorithmic selling of Bitcoin at 10:00 am Eastern Time daily, manipulating the Bitcoin ($BTC) price to buy the ETF at a discount.

”When Jane Street reports holding $790 million in IBIT shares, the filing tells you nothing about whether those shares are hedged by puts, offset by short futures, or wrapped in a collar that makes the firm's net Bitcoin exposure zero or even negative,” wrote Bechler, adding that the ”actual position could be a massive short,” which looks like a long position that is ”invisible” under current disclosure rules.

CryptoQuant’s head of research, Julio Moreno, cautioned that the activity Bechler described is not unique to one firm. He said buying spot exposure while selling futures is a common approach for delta-neutral funds seeking to capture spreads rather than directional price moves.

Bitcoin traded at $68,269 on Feb. 26, 2026, at 8 a.m. EST, pressing up against a stubborn resistance cluster that continues to dictate the short-term tone. The structure is constructive, momentum is attempting to pivot, and price is hovering in what seasoned traders would call a decision zone.

Bitcoin Chart Outlook

On the daily chart, bitcoin‘s broader structure remains corrective within a larger uptrend. Price previously declined from roughly $93,000 to a capitulation wick near $59,900, where demand stepped in decisively before a base formed. Since then, higher lows have printed, with the current zone centered between $67,000 and $69,000.

Still clear as day, major support rests at $60,000, with secondary support between $63,000 and $65,000, while resistance is clearly defined between $70,000 and $72,000. A daily close above $72,000 would open the door toward $78,000 to $80,000, while repeated rejection near $70,000 risks rotation back toward the mid-$60,000s. The bias remains constructive — but only if key levels hold.

The four-hour bitcoin chart shows a V-shaped recovery from $62,500 to $70,038, followed by a controlled pullback rather than disorderly selling. Higher lows continue to form, and momentum is cooling without reversing. Intraday support sits between $67,000 and $68,000, with a stronger footing at $65,000. Resistance at $70,000 has been repeatedly respected, making a sustained four-hour close above that level the technical pivot traders are watching. Until then, this is a structured consolidation beneath a ceiling that refuses to budge.
