Shiba Inu Open Interest Crashes 11% as SHIB Price Hits Near 3-Year Low


Shiba Inu fell to lows last seen in October 2023 as the crypto market deepened a sell-off that has persisted in recent weeks.


A total of $2.45 billion has been liquidated alone in the last 24 hours following a weekend drop, with significant losses recorded among most digital assets. Long positions accounted for the majority of liquidations, coming in at $2.27 billion, with shorts accounting for only $180 million.


This imbalance points to traders being caught unawares by the crash while staying optimistic about a rebound after weeks of range-bound price action in the markets.


Amid the price drop, Shiba Inu saw its open interest crash, falling 11%. According to CoinGlass, Shiba Inu's open interest came in at $75.74 million, with futures flow dropping 193% in the last 24 hours, suggesting traders reducing exposure in the derivatives market.


Thin weekend liquidity increased selling pressure as trading volumes declined into the weekend, a setup that might boost volatility.


SHIB price drops


Shiba Inu saw a sharp price drop on Saturday, falling to a low of $0.00000617 last seen nearly three years ago, in a four-day drop.


Shiba Inu team member Lucie reacts to the market crash, which has seen $2.45 billion in positions wiped out, saying: "these crashes all follow the same script. Over-leverage, panic, forced selling, repeat. Survival in crypto is not about timing every move. It is about a strong community and staying present when everything shakes." The thin liquidity hanging over the market alongside risk appetite waning might suggest more of a reset.

The cryptocurrency market is reeling from one of the most violent capitulation events in its history.


On-chain data confirms that Feb. 5 will go down as a historic day of pain for digital asset holders.


According to analytics firm CryptoQuant, investors locked in a staggering $3.2 billion in realized losses in a single 24-hour period.


A major capitulation event


The metric tracks the net dollar value of all coins moved on-chain compared to the price at which they were last moved.


The massive red bars indicate periods where investors are predominantly selling at a loss.


Over the last week, the market has realized an average of $2.3 billion in losses every single day.


As noted by the analyst, this magnitude places the current crash in the "top 3-5 loss events ever recorded."


The chart allows us to compare the 2026 spike against Bitcoin's most infamous crashes.


May 2021 (the China ban) is the tallest red spike on the chart. This occurred when Bitcoin dropped from $60,000 to $30,999 following China's mining ban.


The Terra/Luna & 3AC Collapse was the second cluster of massive red bars. This was a credit crisis that forced institutional giants to liquidate assets at depressed prices.


The FTX explosion marked yet another wider spike. The psychological capitulation was extreme, with Bitcoin collapsing to just $15,000.


The February 2026 event is visually comparable to the June 2022 deleveraging event.


More pain?


Despite the severity of the capitulation, the worst might not be over for members of the cryptocurrency community. Standard Chartered has issued a cautionary note to cryptocurrency investors, warning that the market is poised for a significant correction.

Anthropic confirmed it raised $30 billion in a Series G round at a valuation of $380 billion. The round was led by GIC and Coatue, with participation from major investors including Founders Fund, Sequoia, BlackRock, Temasek, Microsoft, and NVIDIA.


The company’s financial momentum is notable. Revenue run-rate has reached $14 billion, expanding more than tenfold annually over the past three years.


Claude Code has gained strong enterprise traction, with eight of the Fortune 10 companies now using Claude. The number of customers spending more than $1 million per year has surged from 12 to over 500.

Anthropic now expects annual revenue to nearly quadruple this year, reaching approximately $18 billion.


As AI tools become capable of autonomously executing complex tasks, demand for traditional software is likely to decline sharply. Instead of paying monthly subscriptions for dozens of SaaS products, enterprises may increasingly rely on a single general-purpose AI assistant to manage operations.
