Bitcoin fell to its lowest level since Trump's return to the White House on Tuesday, wiping out all the gains the iconic digital asset had accumulated since Trump's election. Despite the Trump administration's pro-crypto stance and a surge in institutional adoption, Bitcoin has fallen more than 40% since its all-time high in October 2025.

CoinMarketCap data shows that cryptocurrencies generally accelerated their decline during the midday trading session on Tuesday, February 3rd. Bitcoin briefly fell below $73,000, a drop of over $6,000, or nearly 8%, from its intraday high of over $79,100 in the Asian session, hitting a new low since Trump's election victory in early November 2024.


Ethereum, the second-largest cryptocurrency by market capitalization after Bitcoin, fell even more sharply, briefly dipping below $2,110 in the midday trading session, a new low since May 2025, and a drop of slightly more than 10% from its intraday high of over $2,350 in the Asian session.

 Although Bitcoin quickly rebounded to $74,000, it has fallen more than 15% since the beginning of 2026. Investor concerns about economic headwinds continue to intensify, and while the stock market struggles to rebound amid low risk appetite and AI bubble fears, cryptocurrency market sentiment has plummeted. Augustine Fan, a partner at Hong Kong-based crypto options platform SignalPlus, stated, "Cryptocurrency sentiment is hitting bottom, and the market is trading in a bear market pattern."

Bitcoin broke below its year-to-date low of $74,500 on Tuesday, the low reached on April 7, 2025, when Trump's so-called reciprocal tariff plan shocked global financial markets.
