Taiko token crashes 10% following $1.7mln exploit – Details
Taiko, an Ethereum layer 2 scaling solution, was exploited. This was after its chain-state verification mechanism failed, resulting in the attacker bypassing critical validation checks.

As a result, the attacker successfully drained approximately $1.7 million from the ERC20 Vault and the Taiko Bridge Proxy Contracts. After breaching Taiko, the attacker immediately consolidated the stolen assets and then transferred them to various wallets.

These transfers indicate that the attacker entered into a clear monetization phase. Moments later, 1.99 million TKO, worth roughly $189K, was moved to MEXC’s hot wallet, indicating the attacker wanted instant liquidity. Thereafter, focus shifted towards the remaining holdings.
According to Arkham data, the exploiter still controls 870.8 ETH valued at nearly $1.52 million, representing most of the stolen funds. This concentration matters because it leaves a large portion of the proceeds exposed to tracking.

Crypto News Today: Taiko Issues Urgent Warning After Bridge Security Breach

Layer-2 blockchain project Taiko has issued an urgent security warning after confirming that its chain state verification mechanism was compromised. This puts the security of all bridges deployed on the network at risk. 

The incident has already resulted in losses of more than $1 million, according to blockchain security firm Blockaid. It has prompted Taiko to advise users to immediately withdraw funds from affected bridges.

Taiko Confirms Verification Mechanism Compromise

In an official statement posted on X, Taiko revealed that its chain state verification mechanism had been compromised. As a result, the security assumptions behind all bridges running on the network can no longer be trusted.

The team stated, “We have confirmed a compromise of Taiko’s chain state verification mechanism. As a result, the security assumptions of all bridges deployed on Taiko can no longer be relied upon.”

Taiko said it is actively working with its Security Council and ecosystem partners to contain the incident. It is also pausing affected systems where possible, and taking all necessary technical and legal measures.

Bank of England backs down on strict stablecoin holding limits, sets $50 billion issuance cap



The Bank of England officially reversed its controversial proposal to limit how much stablecoin individuals and consumers could hold, bowing to pressure from a U.K. House of Lords committee and the crypto industry.

The central bank said it will abandon its plans to impose a £20,000 ($27,000) holding limit on individuals and a £10 million limit on corporations, in a statement on Monday, Instead, the BOE is pivoting to a macro-level "temporary issuance guardrail," capping the total circulation of any single systemic stablecoin at £40 billion ($50.6 billion).

The central bank also lowered to 30% the amount of backing assets in central deposits yielding no interest they require issuers of stablecoins, digital currency pegged to fiat, to have. This allows for stablecoin firms permitting companies to allocate up to 70% of their reserves into yield-generating, short-term U.K. government debt (T-bills) with maturities under six months, according to the statement.

While issuers can harvest yield from these T-bills, the BoE is strictly banning companies from paying interest or dividends directly to users for simply holding the stablecoin. However, the bank is explicitly permitting activity-based rewards, such as cash-back tokens or loyalty points linked directly to payment transactions via Web3 apps.

The BOE said it agreed with feedback received during a consultation period that ended earlier this month which suggested its proposed restrictions affected business model viability and international competitiveness. “We acknowledge the issues raised and have reviewed the analysis supporting the calibration,” the bank said.

The reversal also follows a report earlier this month by the cross-party Financial Services Regulation Committee of the U.K
