Ethereum futures saw the highest volume of forced closures, with approximately $190 million in positions liquidated. Of that total, an overwhelming 75.78% were short positions, suggesting that traders betting against the second-largest cryptocurrency were caught off guard by a sudden price surge. Bitcoin followed closely, with $130 million in liquidations, of which 69.94% were also shorts.

This pattern indicates a coordinated short squeeze, where rapidly rising prices forced leveraged bearish traders to buy back assets to cover their positions, further accelerating the upward momentum.

Altcoin Liquidations and Market Context

Among altcoins, a token identified as SPCX saw $17.44 million in liquidations, with an extreme 89.27% of those being shorts. While smaller in absolute terms, the high proportion of bearish bets being closed suggests that the squeeze was broad-based across multiple assets.

The liquidation event comes amid a period of heightened volatility in the crypto market, with regulatory developments and macroeconomic factors influencing trader sentiment. The high concentration of short liquidations may also reflect a market that had become overly pessimistic, creating conditions for a rapid reversal.

An hour before kickoff, the Polymarket Sports X account highlighted another million-dollar bettor, who stood to win just $87,000 on a $1 million dollar wager that Spain would win.

The account turned out to be the second biggest loser, followed by another mammoth $720,000 lossThe three biggest losers banking on a Spanish victory lost a total of over $3 million between them.
On the other side of the coin, one freshly-created account hit the jackpot. The account, named “fishalive,” placed two bets, against Spain winning and the match’s spread, netting over $8.5 million in total.

However, with such large sums placed on such low odds, these bets are likely hedging exposure elsewhere, via another profile or on another platform.

In all, Monday’s match in Atlanta saw a total of $64 million worth of Polymarket positions traded, just over half of which was placed on the overall ‘moneyline’ result.

A double bottom pattern, also known as a W pattern, is developing on the four-hour $XRP chart at a resistance zone between $1.18 and $1.19. $XRP is currently struggling to close convincingly above that level, producing candles that briefly push through but fail to hold.

The same double bottom pattern has already played out and confirmed on Bitcoin’s chart. $XRP is lagging behind, still at the potential breakout point while Bitcoin has already cleared its equivalent resistance and moved toward the next target. That lag is consistent with the broader pattern of major altcoins following Bitcoin’s price action with a delay.

Important Levels
A confirmed breakout above $1.19 with sustained closes above that level would technically target approximately $1.29, representing a 9% to 10% move from the breakout point. Resistance along the way sits at approximately $1.24, which would likely slow any rally before the $1.29 target is reached.

If $XRP breaks out but then falls back below $1.18, that would invalidate the pattern and the associated price target entirely. The $1.13 weekly support remains the floor that must hold to keep the broader structure intact.
