The Al news out of OpenAl this week has a sharp edge: the company launched a paid Safety Fellowship offering $3,850 weekly stipends to external researchers studying what could go wrong with advanced Al - announced within hours of a New Yorker investigation reporting that OpenAl had dissolved its internal safety teams and quietly removed the word "safely" from its IRS mission statement.

OpenAl announced the fellowship on April 6 as "a pilot program to support independent safety and alignment research and develop the next generation of talent." The program pays $3,850 per week, over $200,000 annualized, plus roughly $15,000 in monthly compute and mentorship from OpenAl researchers. Fellows work from Constellation's Berkeley workspace or remotely, and applications close May 3. The fellowship is not limited to Al specialists - OpenAl is recruiting from cybersecurity, social science, and human-computer interaction alongside computer science.

Price has clearly recovered from the lower end of its recent range, while the base layer still looks calm, cheap, and uncrowded.

The North Korean secret crypto-agents saga continues. The hidden network of North Korea–aligned crypto hackers have been slowly exposed on the social network X these past days, following the attribution of the April 1st $285 million attack on Drift Protocol to UNC4736, a North Korea–aligned, state‐sponsored hacking group.

On Sunday, security researcher Taylor Monahan claimed that North Korean IT workers have quietly worked inside more than 40 DeFi projects over roughly seven years. Also on Sunday and Monday, multiple crypto industry actors shared videos and stories of North Korean IT workers failing the “Kim Jong-Un Test”.

Now, it was ZachXBT turn to publish his findings, which he did yesterday on a thread on the social network X. The exfiltrated data, that hadn’t been publicly released before, was shared with him by an anonymous source.

The extraction of the data was possible because one of this IT workers workers from the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) had his device infected with an infostealer (malware designed specifically to steal sensitive information). The malware exposed IPMsg chat logs, fabricated identities, and detailed browser activity.

The market-wide bounce also helped AVAX bulls. And yet, as Coinalyze data showed, the Open Interest hike was timid compared to the 13% price bounce. The OI trends showed that the first rally to the $9.6 resistance saw a much steeper OI rise compared to the second one since Monday.

Conversely, the Spot CVD saw a much sharper uptick during the second rally. During this move, the funding rate had been negative.

This hinted at a cluster of signals not in sync with one another. Putting them together, speculative interest during the most recent bounce to $9.62 was low, but spot belief was firm.

And yet, this spot belief, combined with the hike in trading volume, was still not enough for AVAX to break the $9.45-$9.60 supply zone.

On the 1-day chart, the swing structure remained bearish. Though the MFI was moving higher to indicate greater buying pressure and upward momentum in April, the CMF remained below -0.05 to indicate capital flows remained directed out of AVAX.

The seller dominance was evident when the $10.34 local highs were not reclaimed during the mid-March rally. Since then, the $8.3-area has been retested and has seen a rebound too.
