Circle is getting into the wrapped Bitcoin space, with its product cirBTC primarily targeting institutions. According to the firm, cirBTC will be 1:1 backed by BTC, adding that the token will be “readily verifiable” on-chain.

The move is designed to tap into Bitcoin’s $1.7 trillion liquidity. The token will be seamlessly integrated into Circle’s wide network, including its Arc chain and wider DeFi ecosystem.

For the unfamiliar, wrapped Bitcoin tokens allow users to leverage lending, borrowing, and other DeFi activity across Ethereum and other chains.

Will Circle’s wrapped Bitcoin benefit from trust?

It’s worth noting, however, that the wrapped Bitcoin segment has been plagued by trust issues. In August 2024, the top contender in space, BitGo’s WBTC, faced community backlash. This was after it partnered with Justin Sun’s BiT Global.

The deal with BiT Global allowed Justin Sun access to the BTC in cold storage, used as collateral to back WBTC. This unsettled some investors and triggered some outflows at that time.

Sensing the distrust and vacuum created, Coinbase seized the opportunity. It quickly unveiled cbBTC, its rival product. It was an instant success. In just two months, it crossed $1B in market cap. In the last two years, the cbBTC market supply has grown to $6B, underscoring a strong demand.

However, it wasn’t long before Coinbase also faced community scrutiny over a lack of verifiable reserves backing cbBTC. Coinbase’s CEO Brian Armstrong’s response further alienated the community. He said,

As for cbBTC, yes, you’re trusting a centralized custodian to store the underlying BTC – we’ve never claimed otherwise.

The exchange eventually curved and posted proof of reserves for its product. However, the distrust lingered.

And, it seems Circle is betting on this. For Circle’s CEO,Jeremy Allaire, cirBTC will be a ‘neutral’ on-chain asset.

ARK Invest CEO Cathie Wood Says Bitcoin’s Era of 85-95% Bear Market Crashes Is Over as Asset Matures
The CEO of ARK Invest, Cathie Wood, has stated that Bitcoin is now a proven asset and it won’t face an 85% price correction from its new All-time High (ATH) during this bear market. She gave these comments during a recent Squawk Box interview with CNBC. The statement comes as several analysts have predicted an extreme bearish bias in this market, which could lead to price levels below $40k.

Bitcoin is currently trading around the $67k figure at press time, down 47% from its ATH of $126.5k. The cryptocurrency has largely held its value during the ongoing crisis in the Middle East, but there are growing fears that holders might capitulate further, with estimates of a potential bottom ranging from $30k to $56k.
Wood believed that Bitcoin has evolved from “very new tech” to “a proven technology, a proven monetary system, and a new asset class.” She emphasized growing “institutionalization” of Bitcoin, which has reduced its correlation with other assets and strengthened its price floor.

Because of the premier cryptocurrency’s growing maturity, she believes that big price drops from the previous bull season’s ATH are now a thing of the past. 

“Because you’re right; the 85-95% collapses associated with a very new technology — that’s done. This is a proven technology, it’s a proven monetary system, and it’s a new asset class,” she said.

In the previous 2020-2022 cycle, Bitcoin posted an ATH of $69k but then dropped back to $15,600, a 76% decline. In the 2016-2018 cycle, the cryptocurrency reached a high of $20k but fell back to $3k within a year, a 90% decline. This year, the largest price decline we have witnessed was 52% when the crypto bounced back from the $60k level.

Cardano Foundation Slashes ADA Holdings From 76.7% to 51.6% — Bearish Signal?

The Cardano Foundation has carried out a notable treasury adjustment. Its 2025 Activity and Financial Insights Report shows that $ADA exposure declined from 76.7% to 51.6% of total holdings, while allocations to Bitcoin and cash climbed to nearly 49%.

Overall treasury value fell 45% year-over-year to about $361 million, largely influenced by $ADA’s price decline and $29.7 million spent on grants, DeFi initiatives, and governance development.

Is the Cardano Foundation’s Treasury Reduction a Bearish Signal for $ADA?

Rather than signaling distress, the adjustment appears to reflect a calculated diversification strategy.

By expanding its Bitcoin and cash positions, the Foundation is aiming to stabilize its balance sheet amid ongoing market volatility while still retaining meaningful $ADA exposure.

An X user, @mahdiyar_meh, indicated in an April 3, 2026 post that the Foundation was quietly reducing its reliance on $ADA and increasing its allocation to Bitcoin and cash reserves.

This suggests that the move represents strategic positioning rather than panic-driven selling.
