Deutsche Bank AG, one of the world’s largest financial institutions, bought more Strategy Inc. stock (MSTR) during the first quarter of 2026. Those extra shares actually left the bank holding less money than before.

The German lender disclosed in a new SEC filing that it held 784,919 shares at the quarter’s end, up from 731,704 at the close of 2025. However, the holding’s value slipped to roughly $98 million from approximately $111 million as the Bitcoin-linked stock retreated over the same stretch.

Strategy stock ended March 31, 2026 at nearly $125, down from levels above $150 at the close of 2025, per Yahoo Finance. The stock moved modestly higher in Friday pre-market trading and remains up roughly 18% year to date.

Deutsche Bank AG’s holdings in Strategy shares give it indirect crypto exposure. The bank is also preparing to launch crypto custody services in 2026, partnering with Bitpanda and Taurus, while exploring stablecoins, tokenized deposits, and an Ethereum layer 2 initiative.On Tuesday, Strategy released its first-quarter financial results, reporting that its Bitcoin holdings climbed to 818,334 $BTC as of May 3, representing a 22% increase since the start of the year. The company said it achieved a 9.4% $BTC Yield and nearly $5 billion in $BTC dollar gains year to date, supported by continued demand for its Digital Credit products, especially STRC.

According to Strategy, STRC has become a major force in the Bitcoin-backed credit market, growing to $8.5 billion in market capitalization and attracting corporate treasury and DeFi participation from firms including Prevalon, Strive, Anchorage, Apyx, and Saturn.

Although the firm reported a quarterly net loss of $12.5 billion due largely to unrealized losses on its digital asset holdings, it also recorded revenue growth to about $124 million, maintained more than $2.2 billion in cash

A major growth signal is Bitdeer’s AI cloud annual recurring revenue, which reached $43 million as of March, up 105% month-over-month. Management also highlighted strong demand from AI agents and enterprise workloads.
Overall, analysts believe the market is beginning to reward companies that combine Bitcoin mining infrastructure with AI computing capabilities—but argue that Bitdeer has not yet been fully repriced for that opportunity.

Speaking Friday at the Banco de Espana LatAm Economic Forum in Spain, Lagarde argued that Europe does not need to replicate the stablecoin models that have emerged around the U.S. dollar. She said the technological benefits tied to blockchain-based payments can instead be delivered through public infrastructure supported by central bank money.

“The case for promoting euro-denominated stablecoins is far weaker than it appears,” Lagarde said during the event.

Her remarks targeted growing calls within Europe to develop a local stablecoin ecosystem under the EU’s Markets in Crypto-Assets Regulation framework. Bundesbank President Joachim Nagel publicly supported that idea earlier this year, while several European banks and payment firms have already started preparing regulated products.
Lagarde separated what she described as the monetary role of stablecoins from their technological use. According to the ECB president, reserve-currency expansion tied to privately issued tokens creates vulnerabilities that Europe’s financial system cannot easily absorb.

She pointed to risks tied to bank runs, de-pegging events, and deposit migration away from commercial banks, citing the instability that followed the 2023 Silicon Valley Bank collapse and Circle’s USDC disruption. In a bank-dependent economy such as the euro area, Lagarde argued that large-scale movement of deposits into stablecoins could weaken lending capacity and complicate monetary-policy transmission.

Stablecoin card spend is growing 100% year over year, Rain exec says





Stablecoin-based cards could soon account for double-digit percentages of all cards in some Latin American markets, John Timoney, head of strategic partnerships at Rain, a payments infrastructure platform, said.

Retail stablecoin card spend grew about 105% to 106% over the past year, Timoney said during a panel at Consensus Miami 2026. Cards are physical or virtual, allowing users to spend stablecoins such as tether and USD Coin (USDC) directly from a digital wallet for daily purchases.

Rain provides stablecoin infrastructure for card issuers and recently became a Mastercard Principal Member, allowing it to offer credit and prepaid cards on the Mastercard network. Rain and Mastercard are also exploring on-chain settlement for some card program flows using regulated stablecoins.
