Morgan Stanley’s spot bitcoin ETF has completed its first month without a single day of net outflows, even as larger rival funds posted repeated redemption sessions during the same period. Summary Morgan Stanley’s MSBT recorded no daily net outflows during its first month of trading. The bitcoin ETF crossed $103 million in inflows within six trading sessions after launching on April 8. SoSoValue data showed MSBT continued attracting inflows while BlackRock and Fidelity funds posted outflow days. SoSoValue data reviewed by crypto.news showed Morgan Stanley’s MSBT continued attracting fresh capital every trading day since its April 8 launch, while the broader U.S. spot bitcoin ETF market alternated between large inflow and outflow sessions. On May 7 alone, MSBT added $5.7 million as BlackRock’s IBIT lost $27.2 million, Fidelity’s FBTC shed $97.6 million, and ARKB recorded $26.6 million in outflows. Launching into a weak session for the ETF sector, MSBT drew $30.6 million in first-day inflows and roughly $34 million in trading volume while the broader category saw $94 million leave spot bitcoin funds.  Bloomberg Senior ETF Analyst Eric Balchunas later said the debut ranked among the top 1% of ETF launches. Within six trading sessions, the fund had crossed $103 million in cumulative inflows, overtaking WisdomTree’s BTCW, which has operated since January 2024 and has gathered roughly $86 million in total net inflows over its lifetime. Low fee strategy gains traction MSBT entered the market with a 0.14% sponsor fee, the lowest among all U.S. spot bitcoin ETFs. Grayscale’s Bitcoin Mini Trust charges 0.15%, Bitwise’s BITB charges 0.20%, ARKB charges 0.21%, while both IBIT and FBTC sit at 0.25%. Grayscale’s legacy GBTC fund still carries a 1.50% fee. Bitcoin, the leading cryptocurrency by market value and a macro asset, jumped 11.8% last month, the largest gain since April 2025 and has since extended the rally by nearly 6% to $80,700, CoinDesk data show.

This upswing has come alongside record risk-taking on Wall Street, as the tech-heavy Nasdaq index has jumped 22% since April 1, hitting a lifetime high of 23,235 points. The broader index, S&P 500, has rallied over 12% to 7,398 points, according to data source TradingView.

The combined rally in stocks and crypto is normally expected to lift the spirits of the American consumer, who is known to invest in both assets. Reports suggest approximately 30% of American adults, or 70.4 million people, own cryptocurrency. Further, on average, 62% of adults have owned stocks since 2023.

But that's not the case, as highlighted by the University of Michigan's closely watched survey of consumers released Friday. The survey posted a preliminary record-low reading of 48.2 points, down 7.7% from a year ago and extending the decline from April's reading of 49.8 points.

In simple terms, the American consumer is more downbeat than ever, and it's mainly due to inflation fears. One-third of respondents cited gas prices as the biggest concern, and another one-third cited tariffs.

The growing disconnect between Wall Street and Main Street reflects two very different economic realities, according to Alvin Kan, COO at Bitget Wallet.

Bitcoin leads $858M crypto fund inflows as CLARITY Act hopes grow: CoinSharesDigital asset investment products recorded $857.9 million in inflows last week, according to CoinShares’ latest weekly fund flows report.

The figure marked the sixth straight week of positive flows and the largest weekly total since April 24.

Total assets under management rose to $160 billion. CoinShares linked the move to stronger market sentiment after Bitcoin climbed above $80,000 during the week. The firm said the move “likely reflects” improving sentiment around the CLARITY Act, keeping the wording cautious as the bill still awaits a key Senate step.

Bitcoin leads weekly demand

Bitcoin products drew the largest share of new capital, with $706.1 million in weekly inflows. That brought Bitcoin’s year-to-date fund flows to $4.9 billion, according to the report.

Short-Bitcoin products moved in the opposite direction, with $14.4 million in outflows. CoinShares said this was the largest weekly outflow from short-Bitcoin products this year, suggesting some traders closed bearish hedges as the Bitcoin rally gained support.

Additionally, Ethereum products recorded $77.1 million in inflows, reversing the prior week’s $81.6 million outflow. The shift showed renewed demand for ETH exposure after recent weakness in the asset’s fund flows

Solana and $XRP also attracted capital. Solana products drew $47.6 million, while $XRP products saw $39.6 million in inflows. Multi-asset products were the main weak spot, with $5.5 million in outflows.

CLARITY Act debate drives attention

Recent coverage noted that the CLARITY Act’s stablecoin-yield compromise has become a major focus for crypto investors. Major banking groups rejected the Tillis-Alsobrooks language, warning that yield-bearing stablecoins could pull funds away from bank deposits. Coinbase and Circle backed the compromise, while Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong posted, “Mark it up.”

And the timeline for the purported “Q-Day” threat to crypto could be coming faster than expected, with one recent estimate putting it as soon as 2030.

One company working to bring post-quantum security to crypto wallets is Silence Laboratories, which said it has added support for distributed—or multi-party computation (MPC)—signatures using ML-DSA, a cryptographic algorithm selected by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST).

What this means for Bitcoin mining

China banned Bitcoin mining in 2021, displacing over 50% of global hashrate in a single policy move. Miners scattered to Texas, Kazakhstan, Russia, and anywhere else with cheap electricity. But China’s energy dynamics still ripple through the mining industry because of one critical link: hardware.

US tariffs imposed on Chinese-manufactured ASICs have inflated mining breakeven costs to over $90K per BTC.

Bitcoin mining difficulty adjusted downward for the first time in 2026 during April, providing some temporary breathing room. When difficulty drops, it means each miner needs slightly less computational power to earn the same reward.

An April 2026 Congressional Research Service report noted that energy demand in crypto mining is fundamentally tied to hardware efficiency and network hashrate.
