The wallet's unrealized profit increased to about $366,000 after the move, a gain of 26.4% in a very short period of time.The whale currently holds nearly 4.21 billion ASTEROID tokens, or 99.9% of the position that was initially accumulated, and hasn't sold a single token, so the move immediately garnered attention. The token was quickly repriced upward toward the $0.00041 range as a result of the large purchase, which set off a massive green candle.The rally appears impressive at first glance. The issue is that, rather than being essentially organic, the majority of the growth seems to be liquidity-driven. The chart structure clearly indicates that concentrated whale activity, rather than widespread retail participation or ecosystem expansion, was the primary cause of ASTEROID's upward movement.

Price action was comparatively flat and illiquid before the spike. Then, due to thin order books and limited available liquidity, one large market participant entered the market aggressively, instantly driving up prices.

This distinction is important because whale-led pumps frequently give the impression of strong momentum while actually decreasing late buyers' upside potential. Market behavior becomes less about natural demand and more about whether or not those holders choose to distribute supply later once a token becomes highly concentrated within a small number of wallets.

With bitcoin cementing itself as institutional crypto’s reserve asset, a new wave of infrastructure projects is looking to answer a longstanding question: What exactly should people do with it?

VerifiedX, a decentralized layer-1 blockchain and Bitcoin sidechain project, said the key to the answer lies in making the largest cryptocurrency programmable while preserving the core ethos that made it valuable in the first place.

“Bitcoin needs to be left alone,” Jay Pollak, head of strategy and business development at the VerifiedX Foundation, told CoinDesk in an interview. “People need to build around it and build utility with it.”

VerifiedX positions itself between bitcoin maximalists — supporters who say $BTC is the only digital asset anyone needs or holds any significant long-term value — and the sprawling decentralized finance (DeFi) ecosystem built around Ethereum and other blockchains.

Rather than converting bitcoin into representations like wrapped bitcoin (WBTC), in which custody of the original token passes to a third party, Pollak says the project enables “native” programmable bitcoin ownership through a self-custodial architecture using threshold signatures and taproot-based addresses.

The project refers to itself as both a sidechain and what Pollak calls a “reliever chain” — a term the company is trying to popularize to distinguish itself from existing scaling systems for the original blockchain.

“We’re not reinventing or changing Bitcoin,” he said. “You never leave the Bitcoin ecosystem.”

The Senate Banking Committee advanced the Digital Asset Market Clarity Act by a 15-9 vote, and the National Cryptocurrency Association (NCA) says the vote's most enduring effect may be the signal that Washington is building a defined regulatory framework for digital assets.

The bill still needs a Senate floor vote, and Democrats have raised objections around anti-money-laundering provisions and political conflicts of interest, while banks and crypto firms have yet to agree on how to treat stablecoin rewards.

Those disputes are live, but NCA says the committee advance already sends a message that ordinary consumers need to hear.

Ali Tager, VP of External Affairs at the NCA, told CryptoSlate:

“Meaningful progress towards clearer, smarter safeguards signals to consumers and businesses alike that crypto — one of the fastest-growing financial technologies — will operate under predictable oversight, just as traditional banks or credit unions do. That means more confidence in when, where, and how they can safely and responsibly engage with digital assets.”

Prosecutors are now looking downstream at the people and businesses that convert crypto into physical assets.

Over-the-counter gold dealers who accept cryptocurrency often operate with minimal anti-money laundering (AML) and know-your-customer (KYC) oversight. That gap between crypto’s digital transparency and gold’s physical opacity is exactly where laundering thrives.

The DOJ’s approach suggests a rising enforcement risk for OTC gold dealers and other intermediaries facilitating crypto-to-bullion conversions.

Bitcoin’s public ledger means every transaction is permanently recorded. But the moment crypto leaves the digital world and enters the physical one, whether as cash, real estate, or gold bars, that chain of evidence gets murkier.

Over the past week, institutional demand for Ethereum appears to have slowed significantly, as no influx of fresh capital was recorded on any day of the week.

Data provided by SosoValue shows that the Ethereum ETFs have recorded a total weekly outflow of $65.65 million, marking the highest weekly withdrawal recorded since January.

While the last week has proven to be the poorest week the Ethereum ETFs have witnessed since January, the asset saw mixed price action.

This suggests that the brief rally seen on some days of the week might have been driven by market hype or sentiment and not demand from investors, especially institutions.

Nonetheless, the extended withdrawals seen on all days of the week suggest that institutional investors are taking caution and are hesitating to lock their funds in the Ethereum-based investment product.

The highest outflow was seen on Tuesday, May 12, when the funds recorded a total of $130.62 million in outflows within 24 hours, as market sentiment turned negative.

Apparently, it appeared that the brief price rallies witnessed on some of the days could not drive institutional interest in Ethereum, causing the steady withdrawals seen throughout the week.

BlackRock has not only established its leadership in the Bitcoin ETF market, but also in the Ethereum ETF ecosystem as ETHA, its Ethereum ETF, accounted for the highest outflow recorded on each day of the week.

Although the broader momentum is weak and no inflow was seen throughout the week, BlackRock still positions itself as a key player in the Ethereum ETF market.
