Bitcoin carried the momentum that saw it reclaim the $80,000 threshold and reach a peak of $82,458 late Sunday into the new working week, holding above $80,500 for much of Monday morning. Data show that bitcoin began Monday, May 11, at just below $80,700 and steadily rose before meeting resistance at $81,250 at 9:20 a.m. EDT.

The top cryptocurrency then erased all morning session gains in just over an hour, plunging to $80,536. However, this price action was followed by another sharp ascent that saw bitcoin peak above $81,840 around 12:20 p.m. EDT. At the time of writing (1:44 p.m. EDT), bitcoin was still above $81,500 and appeared poised to test the $82,000 resistance again.

Despite the volatility, bitcoin was up 0.3% over 24 hours and by less than 2% over seven days. The marginal increase saw its market capitalization jump to approximately $1.64 trillion. Over 24 hours, nearly $135 million in leveraged positions on bitcoin were liquidated, with long bets accounting for $88 million.

Meanwhile, bitcoin’s marginal increase mirrored that of key Wall Street equities, which were mostly flat after closing Friday with big gains. Markets were seemingly weighed down by geopolitical tensions in the Middle East, which appeared to rise after President Donald Trump described Iran’s latest peace agreement proposal as “unacceptable.” The US President’s remarks set the stage for another jittery week for global markets, dashing hopes for a negotiated settlement.

Ronin returns to Ethereum as gaming chain cuts RON inflation by 95%

Ronin Network will reconnect to Ethereum on 12 May through a major infrastructure upgrade that also slashes RON token inflation from more than 20% to below 1%.

The migration marks a major shift for the gaming-focused blockchain, which originally launched in 2021 because Ethereum could not efficiently support Axie Infinity’s explosive growth.

Now, Ronin says Ethereum’s Layer 2 ecosystem has matured enough for a “homecoming.”

“The time has come to plug Ronin back into the mothership: Ethereum,” the team said in an April announcement ahead of the migration.

The upgrade will move Ronin onto Ethereum’s modern Layer 2 stack using the OP Stack.

Banks Move Crypto Deeper Into Regulated Finance
Wall Street’s crypto footprint is expanding across the financial system. Asset management firm Bitwise shared data on social media platform X on May 8 showing 24 major financial institutions active in crypto. The chart spans trading, custody, private funds, exchange-traded products, payments, and tokenization across banks, asset managers, exchanges, and payment networks.

Crypto exchange-traded products (ETPs) have become the broadest point of entry. Bank of America now provides Merrill wealth management clients access to spot bitcoin ETPs, reflecting client demand for regulated exposure. Vanguard also allows brokerage clients to trade crypto ETPs after previously blocking bitcoin ETFs. Blackrock, Fidelity, Franklin Templeton, Morgan Stanley, UBS, and Wells Fargo are also listed in the ETP category.

Circle said the nanopayments infrastructure supports gas-free $USDC ($USDC) transfers as small as $0.000001 and is designed for high-frequency autonomous payment flows between software systems.
The company said the tools are built to allow AI agents to transact autonomously within predefined permissions, spending controls and policy guardrails across supported blockchains and payment networks.

The rollout also includes Circle CLI, a command interface for developers and AI agents building applications on Circle’s platform, and Agent Wallets, which the company said are designed for agents to hold, send and manage funds independently.

Bloomberg senior commodities strategist Mike McGlone stated that the market is divided, focusing on the macroeconomic picture. On one side are record profits from giant corporations and stock market rallies, and on the other are consumers grappling with a debt crisis.
