Oil just got a lot cheaper, and markets across Asia are waking up in a good mood because of it.

WTI crude dropped more than $4 per barrel after President Donald Trump indicated that US-Iran peace talks were progressing in an orderly fashion. Asia-Pacific equities are expected to open higher, and crypto is along for the ride, with Bitcoin approaching $82,000.

Why Larsen’s wallet activity draws attention from the $XRP community
In January 2025, wallets that had been idle for six to seven years reactivated and sent more than $109 million in $XRP to exchanges including Coinbase, Bitstamp, and Bybit. In July 2025, on-chain researcher ZachXBT reported an additional $140 million in $XRP transfers from Larsen-linked addresses coinciding with $XRP trading near an all-time high above $3.40.

“Since July 17, 2025, an address linked to Ripple co-founder Chris Larsen transferred out 50M $XRP ($175M) to four addresses. ~$140M ended up at exchanges/services,” ZachXBT wrote on X in July 2025. Larsen had not commented publicly on today’s activity at time of writing.

Whether the current movement precedes exchange transfers or represents internal wallet management is not confirmed from on-chain data available at time of publication. Crypto.news has covered Ripple CEO Brad Garlinghouse’s legislative activity in 2026 as the Clarity Act moves through Congress.

Dow futures climbed around 440 to 505 points, roughly a 1% gain, while oil prices cratered in the opposite direction.

West Texas Intermediate crude settled at $96.35 per barrel, a drop of more than 5% from recent sessions. The logic is straightforward: if Washington and Tehran reach an agreement, the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most critical oil chokepoints, could see significantly more supply flowing through it.

The deal that isn’t done yet
President Trump has indicated that negotiations are in their final stages. Iranian officials, for their part, have struck a more cautious tone. They’ve acknowledged consensus on several issues but pushed back on the notion that an agreement is imminent.

The talks involve a complex web of mediators, including diplomats from Pakistan and Oman. Lurking beneath the surface is Iran’s uranium enrichment program, a sticking point that has derailed previous rounds of diplomacy and could easily do so again.

Why oil’s drop matters beyond the pump
A sustained decline in crude prices would ripple through the entire economy. Energy costs are a major input in virtually every supply chain, from manufacturing to agriculture to shipping. Lower energy costs feed directly into cooling headline inflation numbers, which in turn could give the Fed more room to maneuver on interest rates.

The Strait of Hormuz handles roughly a fifth of global oil consumption, and any escalation in tensions around it tends to send crude spiking.
