Ondo Finance [$ONDO] surged despite ongoing market uncertainty, raising questions about the reason behind such gains at a time when geopolitical tensions are at their peak and the broader crypto market continues its bearish streak.

At press time, $ONDO rose 15.60% to $0.3415, lifting its market capitalization to $1.85 billion. Investor support for the rally was evident as trading volume surged 196% to $267.44 million.

A key driver of this upward momentum appears to be the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission’s (SEC) recent plan to permit trading of tokenized stocks. In this space, Ondo Finance controls more than 60% of the total tokenized equities market.

In fact, market participants had already begun showing interest and confidence in the project even before the SEC’s plan.

Data from analytics platform DeFiLlama discloses that Ondo Finance’s Total Value Locked (TVL) has witnessed a massive rise in 2026. Since the beginning of the year, the TVL has surged from $1.929 billion to the current $3.689 billion, nearly doubling in less than five months.

This indicates growing investor confidence, rising platform adoption, and increasing capital inflow into the project, which could further strengthen $ONDO’s long-term bullish outlook.

Meanwhile, the top 100 addresses have also increased their Ondo Finance holdings over the past thirty days. Data from analytics platform Nansen reveals that the top 100 $ONDO holders increased their holdings by 1.25%, which further reinforces $ONDO’s bullish outlook.

Despite the bullish outlook, intraday traders are currently eyeing the price to move lower, as per derivatives platform CoinGlass.

At press time, the key liquidation levels stood at $0.376 on the downside and $0.401 on the upside. Traders at these levels had built $2.90 million in long‑leveraged positions and $3.14 million in

The market is sliding deeper into fear, the kind of phase where conviction starts turning into capitulation.

Looking at the broader setup and Bitcoin’s [$BTC] recent pullback, this dynamic is worth paying attention to. On the macro side, after a few weeks of relative calm, U.S. President Donald Trump recently instructed the U.S. military to prepare for a potential full-scale strike on Iran. This added momentum to already rising oil prices as they push toward $110 per barrel.

For Bitcoin, this is happening at a rough spot in the cycle. As the chart shows, $BTC has, for now, been rejected at the Short-Term Holders’ cost basis, sitting near $81,000. At the same time, the STH MVRV ratio, which had tapped the 1.0 level (basically breakeven for short-term holders) has rolled over from that zone.

Put together, this setup suggests short-term holders are exiting fairly aggressively for now.

Adding to the weakness, Bitcoin ETFs started the new week with nearly $650 million in net outflows, extending last week’s $1 billion+ in redemptions. But according to CoinMarketCap, the selling pressure is broader this time. ARKB and IBIT are nearly tied for the largest outflows, each recording about $310–$324 million. In contrast, January’s redemption waves leaned more heavily on IBIT alone.

From an institutional standpoint, this points to deeper fear spreading across major players, reinforcing the risk-off tone in the market. Meanwhile, Santiment recently noted rising FUD around Bitcoin across social media platforms. In essence, macro FUD now looks like it’s shifting from conviction into early-stage capitulation, raising the question: Is Bitcoin’s recent correction the start of a deeper unwind?

Rising market fear can cut both ways: Either investors panic sell or step in to buy the FUD.

The crypto market remained subdued on Wednesday as it grappled with a key level of support after bitcoin failed to break above $83,000 last week.

The largest cryptocurrency was recently changing hands at $77,400 after adding 0.7% since midnight UTC. The move comes after a 5% loss over the past week.

Ether ($ETH) outperformed bitcoin, gaining 1% to $2,130, but the broader altcoin market remains mixed; CHZ, TON and ATOM lost between 1% and 3%, while $DASH, STRK and PYTH all increased by 5%.
