$33K Could Be Bitcoin’s Next Stop if History Repeats: AnalystSell in May and go away is a popular saying in the financial markets, and renowned analyst Merlijn The Trader outlined a historical pattern that could be even more painful for $BTC now.
His targets are quite worrying, with the worst-case scenario predicting a massive plunge to $33,000.
Another 60% Decline Soon?
Following bitcoin’s rejection at $82,000 earlier this week and the subsequent correction to a 15-day low of $78,000, the bearish sentiment in Crypto X skyrocketed, with several analysts outlining different scenarios in which $BTC could crash further. The latest to hop on the bear bandwagon was Merlijn The Trader, who noted that the cryptocurrency has significantly underperformed in the three previous midterm election years, such as the current one.
According to his data, the asset fell by 61% in 2014, by 65% in 2018, and by 66% four years ago. He warned: “Three cycles. Three dumps. Zero exceptions.” If this pattern is to play out in the current mid-term year, then $BTC could plunge to $33,000.

Here’s a fun tension inside Solana’s leadership: the Foundation’s president thinks meme coins are useful stress tests for the network. The co-founder thinks they’re garbage. Both of them work on the same blockchain.

Lily Liu, president of the Solana Foundation, said during a discussion with Fundstrat’s Sean Farrell that meme coins should be understood as a “production test” for the network’s performance, not as a defining feature of the ecosystem. In her framing, every degen-fueled trading frenzy is actually a live fire drill for Solana’s infrastructure.

The reframe Solana needed

Liu described meme coins as part of a broader spectrum of assets on Solana, ranging from pure speculation on one end to genuine utility on the other. She’s not endorsing meme coins as valuable financial products. She’s saying they serve a mechanical purpose for the network, even if the tokens themselves are economically hollow.

Meme coins accounted for roughly 62% of Solana’s dApp revenue in June 2025. That’s a staggering concentration in assets that, by design, have no fundamental value proposition beyond vibes and momentum.

Rather than deny that reality, Liu is leaning into it with a different narrative. The meme coins aren’t the product. Solana’s ability to process them at scale is the product.

Pi Network’s upcoming Protocol 23.0 upgrade is poised to be another pivotal milestone in the project’s technical evolution. 

The update will officially turn Pi Network into a programmable L1 smart contract and DApp platform. The launch also brings in enhanced development capabilities to boost the ecosystem growth on the Pi Network platform.

Bitcoin Depot Issues Bankruptcy Warning as Revenue Drops 49%

Bitcoin Depot issued a going concern warning after reporting a 49% year-over-year revenue drop in Q1 2026.

The company faces lawsuits from attorneys general in Massachusetts and Iowa over alleged facilitation of crypto scams.

Crypto ATM fraud hit a record $389 million in reported losses in 2025, a 58% increase from the prior year.

Bitcoin Depot, the world’s largest crypto ATM operator, has issued a “going concern” warning flagging substantial doubt over whether the company can survive the next 12 months.
In preliminary results for Q1 2026, the company reported a 49% year-over-year drop in revenue, generating roughly $83.5 million in the three months ended March 31.

The firm blamed a decline in transaction volume driven by regulatory shifts and tightened compliance controls.

Operating expenses also surged due to increased litigation costs, pushing the company to a net loss of $9.5 million — compared to a profit of $12.2 million in the same period a year ago.

During the quarter, cash and cash equivalents fell by $21.6 million, leaving Bitcoin Depot with $44 million on hand.

Bitcoin Depot is currently fighting high-profile lawsuits from attorneys general in Massachusetts and Iowa, who allege the company uses misleading pricing, knowingly facilitates crypto scams, and enforces a predatory refund policy.

The company has argued it has adequate measures in place to protect customers, and earlier this year said it would begin requiring personal IDs for every transaction at its kiosks.

An Iowa Supreme Court decision last year ruled the company was entitled to keep deposited cash, even as local authorities have taken aggressive steps to retrieve funds for fraud victims.
