JPYC raises $38M in Series B as AZ-COM Maruwa backs yen-pegged stablecoin

JPYC, the issuer of Japan's first licensed yen-pegged stablecoin, has raised an additional ¥1 billion (about $6.3 million) in an extended Series B funding round, bringing the total for this round to approximately ¥6 billion ($38 million). The new investor is logistics group AZ-COM Maruwa Holdings, which also plans to use JPYC tokens to pay fees and salaries to around 2,300 business partners and truck drivers, citing faster and cheaper processing compared to traditional bank transfers. Launched in October 2025, each JPYC token is pegged 1:1 to the Japanese yen and is backed by yen deposits and Japanese government bonds. The company completed the first Series B tranche in February, led by Asteria Corporation, and a second closing in April. Other investors include NCB Venture Capital, Metaplanet, and Sumitomo Life. The Japanese government is actively promoting yen-based stablecoins to counter the dominance of dollar-pegged tokens. Major Japanese banks are testing their own stablecoins, and SBI Group launched JPYSC in June 2026. JPYC is currently being tested for payments at a Lawson store, some vending machines in Kyoto, and a restaurant chain. The newly raised funds will be used to expand payment systems, remittance services, and Web3 integrations.
