Is BNB Chain’s post-Fermi roadmap the ‘foundation’ for 2026?
The Fermi hardfork on BNB Chain has been activated, reducing block production time from 0.75 to 0.45 seconds, significantly speeding up transaction confirmations. According to Nina Rong, Executive Director of Growth at BNB Chain, this upgrade serves as a foundation for more ambitious 2026 plans, including a next-generation trading chain targeting near-instant confirmations and massive throughput while preserving decentralization.
The upgrade places BNB among the top five fastest chains, with Solana being a key competitor. Although BNB reduced transaction costs to $0.005 in late 2025, it has since risen to $0.0918, still much higher than Solana’s $0.0038.
In early 2026, SOL has outperformed BNB in price gains, with SOL rising 17% in two weeks compared to BNB’s 10%, giving SOL investors slightly better returns.
