Bitcoin short-term holder losses narrow to 4%: Structure builds for BTC’s rebound

ambcryptoPublicado a 2026-07-24Actualizado a 2026-07-24

Resumen

Bitcoin's short-term holder losses have narrowed sharply to around -4.0% from -20.48% in early June, bringing the cohort close to its average cost basis of $68,800. This proximity may incentivize holding, reducing recent supply from entering the market. The asset's structure shows bullish signs, including a sustained golden cross and rising accumulation volume. However, momentum faces headwinds as spot and perpetual market netflows remain negative. Bitcoin currently trades in an undervalued zone, and a shift to positive netflows could support a potential rally, similar to a pattern observed before its 2025 surge.

Bitcoin’s [BTC] recent profitability profile may be the key factor setting the asset up for a longer-term rally, given the immediate structure of the market.

The asset has climbed from a July low of $57,800 to $65,777 twenty-two days later, a recovery that has reshaped the position of the market’s newest participants.

That rally brought a shift in dynamics that now leaves short-term holders—investors who have held their coins for fewer than 155 days—needing to sit on their positions longer before they can return to profit.

Bitcoin short-term holder losses narrow to 4%

The profit and loss margin for Bitcoin short-term holders has shifted significantly, and the move may push the cohort to change its sentiment and hold for longer. Bitcoin’s price is now closing in on the group’s cost basis, which sits at $68,800 at the time of writing.

That narrowing gap implies the cohort may wait a while longer simply to break even, let alone take profit, keeping a portion of recently accumulated supply off the market in the meantime.

Short-Term Holder Realized Profit and Loss puts the group’s loss margin at roughly -4.0% at the time of this report, recovering from -20.48% on the 6th of June and marking one of the sharpest improvements in the metric this quarter.

A cross above the zero mark would return the cohort to profit and imply a higher valuation for Bitcoin across the broader holder base.

The last occasion Bitcoin flipped into that zone, on the 23rd of April 2025, preceded a run from $92,000 to an all-time high of $126,000 in October 2025, and a similar trajectory may be forming now.

Accumulation and a golden cross point to bullish momentum

Bitcoin’s structure suggests the asset is gearing up for a rebound. The Accumulation/Distribution indicator, a volume-weighted tool that gauges whether buying or selling dominates the market, has continued to climb.

The reading has now reached 4.69 million in accumulated Bitcoin volume, a level last seen in June before the asset staged a significant surge, and it points to gradual, sustained buying across the market.

Adding to the outlook, a golden cross formed between the 19th and the 20th of July when the 20-day simple moving average crossed above the 50-day on the chart, and the pattern has been sustained since.

Traders typically link the crossover to sustained rallies, and the most recent instance, on the 12th and the 13th of April, carried Bitcoin nearly 17% higher from $70,500 to above $82,458 within the same leg.

Bitcoin holds inside its undervalued zone

Bitcoin trading around the $66,000 region sits inside what AMBCrypto previously identified as the asset’s undervalued zone, based on its market value relative to the realized value of coins last moved on-chain.

Structure may favor a rally, but momentum still has to follow, and that requires Spot market netflows to turn positive as buyers outpace sellers over a sustained stretch.

Much of the resistance Bitcoin has met around this zone traces back to profit-taking and to the absence of fresh demand across Spot and perpetual markets, where netflows fell to negative 170,000 BTC as of the 21st of July.

Final Summary

  • Short-term holder losses have narrowed from -20.48% in June to roughly -4.0%, leaving the cohort close enough to its $68,800 cost basis to hold.
  • Rising accumulation and a golden cross formation have been sustained, though spot and perpetual netflows remain negative at 170,000 BTC.

QWhat is the cost basis for short-term holders mentioned in the article, and what is its significance?

AThe cost basis for short-term holders sits at $68,800. This is significant because the narrowing gap between the current price and this cost basis may incentivize holders to wait longer to break even, keeping recently accumulated supply off the market.

QWhat two technical indicators in the article are cited as pointing to potential bullish momentum for Bitcoin?

AThe two technical indicators are: 1) The rising Accumulation/Distribution indicator, which suggests sustained buying, and 2) The formation and sustenance of a golden cross, where the 20-day simple moving average crossed above the 50-day moving average.

QWhat past event does the article reference as an example of what might happen if short-term holders return to a profit zone?

AThe article references the event on April 23, 2025, when Bitcoin flipped into the profit zone. This preceded a run from $92,000 to an all-time high of $126,000 in October 2025.

QDespite the positive structural signs, what key factor does the article say is still needed for a rally in momentum?

AThe article states that for a rally in momentum, Spot market netflows need to turn positive, meaning buyers must outpace sellers over a sustained period. Currently, netflows are negative at 170,000 BTC as of July 21st.

In Conversation with Ray Dalio: We Are Currently in an AI Bubble, with 1% of My Portfolio in Bitcoin

Ray Dalio, founder of Bridgewater Associates, warns in an interview that the current AI boom shows classic bubble characteristics, which could lead to significant economic downturns as seen in past cycles like 1929 or 2000. He explains that speculative enthusiasm, fueled by debt and overvaluation, often precedes a crash when rising rates or taxation force asset sales, causing widespread losses and recession. Dalio also outlines his "Big Cycle" theory, describing an approximate 80-year pattern where widening wealth gaps, massive government deficits, and shifting geopolitical power (like China's rise) create internal conflict and global instability. He emphasizes that we are in a late-cycle, transitional phase where traditional powers like the US and UK face decline. For personal wealth protection, Dalio advises diversification beyond cash into assets like stocks, bonds, real estate, and particularly gold, which he prefers over Bitcoin. While he holds about 1% of his portfolio in Bitcoin as a non-printable hard asset, he views gold as more secure from technological or governmental threats. Regarding AI's impact, Dalio believes it will disproportionately benefit capital owners, worsening inequality by replacing both physical and cognitive labor. He suggests that human intuition and emotional intelligence, combined with AI, will be key for future workers. On taxation, Dalio argues that wealth taxes are impractical and risk triggering asset sell-offs, reducing productive investment. He points to the UK as a cautionary example of debt, low productivity, and political strife. Geopolitically, Dalio foresees a more regionalized world, with the US showing weakness in prolonged conflicts like with Iran, akin to past imperial declines. The ideal outcome, he suggests, is coexisting powerful blocs (e.g., Americas, China-Asia Pacific) without major war.

Daily 7.2 Trillion KRW: Foreign Capital's Record Net Buying on Friday! Wall Street Says Headwinds for Korean Stock Fund Flows Have Subsided

South Korean stock market sees a dramatic shift in fund flows. On July 31, foreign investors made a record net purchase of approximately KRW 7.2 trillion in KOSPI stocks, marking a fundamental reversal from the persistent large-scale net outflows seen in previous months. This contributed to a significant narrowing of foreign net selling in July to KRW 9.8 trillion, down sharply from KRW 48.4 trillion in June and KRW 44.5 trillion in May. Simultaneously, domestic institutional pressure eased. South Korean pension funds and asset managers turned to a net buying position in July, purchasing KRW 1.0 trillion worth of KOSPI shares, contrasting with net sales in May and June. Market volatility is expected to be dampened by new financial regulations. Effective July 31, the Financial Services Commission tightened access for retail investors to single-stock leveraged ETFs by raising the minimum cash deposit requirement. Trading volumes for these products subsequently dropped to about 50% of their monthly average. Citigroup Research maintains its year-end KOSPI target of 10,000 points. The firm cites several supportive factors: the substantial easing of headwinds from capital outflows, a robust fundamental outlook for the semiconductor sector, historically low market valuations, strong economic fundamentals, and the potential for policy support from financial authorities if needed.

Thanks to Dice Rolls, Bitcoin Keys Are Stored Offline, But Not Everyone Will Do It

The article discusses using dice rolls to generate secure Bitcoin wallet seeds, providing entropy independent of potentially flawed hardware random number generators. It explains that each fair dice roll offers about 2.585 bits of entropy, with around 50 rolls needed for a standard 12-word seed phrase and 99+ recommended for higher security. This method gained attention after a vulnerability was revealed in some Coldcard hardware wallets, where a faulty firmware RNG (dating back to 2021) compromised generated keys. The analysis notes that while a dice-generated main seed was safe from this specific flaw, other Coldcard functions (like creating paper wallets, backup keys, or passwords) could still be vulnerable if they used the defective RNG. The piece argues that while dice-based entropy is technically robust, the manual process is error-prone, tedious, and unrealistic for most new users, who might make mistakes in recording or inputting rolls. It concludes that while manual entropy generation should remain an option for advanced users, the long-term goal is to develop reliable, user-friendly hardware and software that securely generates randomness without requiring specialized knowledge. Coldcard users are advised to check their firmware version and replace any secondary secrets (like paper wallet keys) created with vulnerable devices, while also considering multi-signature setups with devices from different manufacturers for added security.
