Full names, email addresses, user identification data, IP addresses, phone numbers, and public cryptocurrency wallet addresses were stolen. Bits of Gold specialists discovered unauthorized access to the data analysis support system and blocked access to the system. The exchange reported that cybersecurity specialists have been engaged to investigate the attack, and law enforcement agencies have been notified.
The Bits of Gold team assured that the hacker was unable to obtain cryptoassets, passwords, or copies of identity documents—this data remains secure. The company clarified that it does not store client private keys or complete credit card data, including CVV codes. The exchange has not ceased operations and continues to provide services.
However, the platform warned customers that they may become victims of phishing attacks and advised them to be cautious, as scammers may contact them.
In April, the Israeli Capital Market, Insurance and Savings Authority approved the launch of the Bits of Gold Shekel (BILS) stablecoin, pegged to the shekel. The Bits of Gold exchange planned to issue the stablecoin after two years of testing.
