Sushi and Synthetix get the boot in Grayscale DeFi fund rebalancing

Digital asset management firm Grayscale, has added three new cryptocurrency assets across three main investment funds, while removing two other assets from its Decentralized Finance Fund as part of this year’s first quarterly rebalance.
Grayscale removed tokens from crypto-derivatives decentralized exchange Synthetix (SNX), and decentralized exchange SushiSwap (SUSHI), from its DeFi fund after the two crypto assets failed to meet the required minimum market capitalization. No other cryptocurrencies were removed during the rebalancing.
Grayscale’s DeFi fund, which was launched in July last year, currently holds approximately $8 million in assets. The digital assets remaining in the DeFi fund after the quarterly rebalance include Uniswap (UNI), Aave (AAVE), Curve (CRV), MakerDAO (MKR), Amp (AMP), Yearn Finance (YFI) and Compound (COMP).
The crypto asset manager added Avalanche (AVAX) and Polkadot (DOT) to its Digital Large Cap Fund, alongside adding Cosmos (ATOM) to its Smart Contract Platform Ex-Ethereum Fund (GSCPxE Fund).
The GSCPxE Fund, which was launched on March 22nd, offers investors the ability to bet on an index of Ethereum’s largest competitors. The GSCPxE Fund’s current holdings listed by the total amount held are ADA, SOL, AVAX, DOT, MATIC, ALGO, XLM and ATOM.
Grayscale remains the world’s leading crypto asset manager, reporting that it held $43.5 billion in assets under management as of Jan. 3rd, this year. The Grayscale Bitcoin Trust (GBTC) remains the largest fund with just over $30 billion in AUM, but has traded at an increasing discount to its net-asset-value for the past year. GBTC is followed in size by the Grayscale Ethereum Trust (ETCG) which currently holds approximately $11.8 billion in AUM.

In 2021, cryptocurrency investment funds generated over $9.3 billion in inflows as institutional adoption rose to new highs. Grayscale is gearing up to offer a Bitcoin Spot exchange-traded fund (ETF) and said it was willing to pursue legal action if the investment product remains barred by the SEC.

Retrial of Tornado Cash developer Roman Storm postponed to April 2027

The retrial of Tornado Cash co-founder and developer Roman Storm has been postponed from October 26, 2026, to April 26, 2027. This follows a motion by Storm's lawyers to delay the trial pending a decision on his motion for acquittal. A U.S. District Judge granted the postponement, noting Storm's legal team stated they would need at least 90 days to prepare if the acquittal motion is denied. Prosecutors had opposed the delay. The U.S. government requested the retrial in March after a Manhattan jury failed to reach unanimous verdicts on two charges: conspiracy to commit money laundering and conspiracy to violate U.S. sanctions. However, the same jury had found Storm guilty in August 2025 on a separate charge of conspiracy to operate an unlicensed money-transmitting business, which carries a potential sentence of up to five years in prison. Storm has filed for acquittal on all three charges, arguing prosecutors failed to prove he intended to help criminals misuse the Tornado Cash privacy protocol. He expressed uncertainty about the timeline for a ruling on his acquittal motion.

Nexperia China CEO Zhang Qiuming announced the company's return on August 22, 2026, after successfully overcoming a severe supply crisis. Collaborating with domestic wafer foundries, Nexperia achieved stable supply and high yields. Key to resuming production was securing validation from downstream automotive customers, who trusted Nexperia's proven product performance. Within 11 months, the company restored mass production, with mature-process chip yields on the 12-inch platform reaching 99%, 5-10 percentage points higher than on 8-inch platforms. Leveraging the cost advantages of the 12-inch platform's scale and the localized supply chain, Nexperia China adopted a counter-cyclical strategy by reducing prices for key products like power MOSFETs by about 30% amid an industry-wide price hike. It also established its own e-commerce platform and shortened delivery cycles to 4-6 weeks from the industry norm of 20-40 weeks. Furthermore, the company switched to RMB settlement for all trade. Nexperia China's transformation demonstrates how a robust, autonomous domestic supply chain can not only ensure survival but also enhance global competitiveness. As Chief Commercial Officer Li Dongyue stated, "A strong enough Chinese supply chain can serve not only China but also the world."
