Crypto exchange BitMart to wind down trading platform by January 2027


BitMart will shut down its crypto trading platform through an orderly wind-down process after determining that current operating conditions, market circumstances and its long-term strategy no longer support continuing operations, the company said this week.

In a statement, the exchange said it will gradually stop accepting new users, suspend fiat and crypto deposits, prevent new futures positions and spot orders, and phase out copy trading, grid trading, API trading and other automated services beginning July 26, 2026.

Trading across spot and futures markets will cease on Aug. 26, while investment products including Earn, staking, lending and Launchpad will be retired separately. The exchange expects to officially cease platform operations on Jan. 31, 2027, although users will temporarily retain access to their accounts for withdrawals and historical records afterward.

Users are advised to withdraw assets as early as possible by completing KYC verification, closing open positions and submitting withdrawal requests before the Aug. 26 deadline.

The firm said withdrawals will remain available but may be subject to identity verification, blockchain risk analysis, Travel Rule compliance, sanctions screening and source-of-funds checks, with processing times potentially extended during periods of heavy demand.

I recently finished reading this 600-page book and it has been an eye opener on many levels, especially on weather, a space I last tracked at my gig on a currencies and commodities research desk in Mumbai from 2012 to 2014. Part of my job involved tracking natural gas prices, which take cues from weather forecasts and sometimes weather derivatives, more specifically options on heating degree days (HDD) and cooling degree days (CDD).

Cardano Founder Warns Bitcoin Could Lose Top Spot Without Major Upgrades
Cardano founder Charles Hoskinson has warned that Bitcoin could eventually lose its position as the world’s largest cryptocurrency if it fails to adapt to quantum computing.

Speaking in an interview on The Starting Block, Hoskinson claimed that Bitcoin’s biggest weakness is its limited ability to implement major protocol upgrades. 

He argued that Bitcoin’s governance model makes significant network changes difficult, a challenge that could become critical as quantum computing advances and threatens today’s cryptographic security.

According to Hoskinson, Bitcoin has successfully overcome several external challenges throughout its history, including the disappearance of its pseudonymous creator, Satoshi Nakamoto.

However, he stressed that quantum computing represents a fundamentally different threat. Unlike previous challenges, quantum-resistant security would likely require coordinated, network-wide upgrades. If Bitcoin cannot organize and deploy those changes efficiently, Hoskinson believes it could eventually lose its dominance in the cryptocurrency market. 

For context, Bitcoin remains the world’s largest cryptocurrency by market cap, with a valuation of $1.28 trillion. 

Conversely, Hoskinson argued that Cardano was built to preserve Bitcoin’s original vision while addressing limitations that have emerged over time.

He described Cardano as Bitcoin’s “spiritual successor,” saying the blockchain solves issues that Satoshi Nakamoto could not fully address because of technical limitations and time constraints during Bitcoin’s early ......

Looking past the raw bitcoin totals, a clearer pattern shows up in the share prices. The companies that mine bitcoin are having a strong year. The companies that simply hold it as a treasury asset are not.

The reasons are straightforward. First, miners can accumulate bitcoin at a production cost that is often below the prevailing market price, giving them an advantage that most corporate buyers cannot match. Second, many publicly traded miners have spent the past few years building out artificial intelligence (AI) infrastructure, creating a second line of business that helps diversify revenue beyond bitcoin mining alone.

Riot Platforms, for instance, is up 73% year to date, the best performance among the top ten holders. Cleanspark has gained 39% as it builds out mining data centers and battery storage projects across North America. Mara Holdings is up 31% on the strength of its own mining and treasury strategy, holding 36,303 $BTC while continuing to expand its mining footprint.

Worldcoin price tumbled nearly 10% after the World Foundation closed a $52.5 million institutional funding round, shifting investor attention from long-term expansion to near-term token supply. While the Pantera Capital led-investment is set to accelerate the rollout of the project's Al-powered World ID ecosystem, traders reacted to the accompanying $WLD token sale and renewed supply concerns. The sharp decline has also pushed $WLD below a key support level, putting the token's recovery at risk.

World Foundation Secures $52.5M to Scale World ID

The World Foundation confirmed it had raised $52.5 million through a private sale of $WLD tokens to institutional investors. According to the foundation, the proceeds will be used to accelerate the rollout of World ID, the project's proof-of-humanity platform designed to verify human identity in an increasingly Al-driven digital economy. The expansion targets enterprise adoption, consumer applications, and Al agents, positioning Worldcoin to capitalize on growing demand for verifiable digital identity solutions.

The funding round also adds another layer of institutional support to the project, with Pantera Capital leading the investment alongside several established crypto-focused firms. Rather than financing day-to-day operations, the raise is aimed at strengthening infrastructure and expanding the network's global reach over the coming years.
