THORChain Adds Support for $ZEC: A Strategic Integration

THORChain, a decentralized cross-chain liquidity protocol, has officially announced support for Zcash. This integration allows users to swap $ZEC natively on the THORChain network. The development team plans a phased rollout to ensure stability and security. Initially, users can deposit and withdraw $ZEC. Full swap functionality will follow in subsequent phases.

This addition expands THORChain’s asset ecosystem. Previously, the protocol supported major assets like Bitcoin, Ethereum, and Litecoin. Not everything in bitcoin is at risk from a quantum computer.
Bitcoin mining, the process by which new blocks get added to the blockchain, uses a type of math called hashing that quantum computers cannot meaningfully break. The ledger itself and the rule that new bitcoin can only be created through mining would survive a quantum attacker. Blocks would still get produced, and the chain would keep running.

What would not survive is ownership.

Bitcoin wallets are protected by a different kind of math that turns a secret private key into a public address anyone can see. The math works easily in one direction and not at all in the other, which is the only thing stopping a stranger from spending your coins.

On Hyperliquid, a critical situation has been recorded in the portfolio of one of the platform's largest players, '0xc30...ba4c9' as per whale tracker by CoinGlass. His bet on a decline in $XRP, worth almost $4 million, risks being fully liquidated if the token's price rises to $1.69.

At the moment, the whale holds four short positions: $BTC, $ETH, $XRP and $TAO, with total leverage of 7.10x. Although the Bitcoin, Ethereum and $TAO positions are currently in the green and are generating a combined unrealized profit of about $13,000, the $XRP short wipes out that success with a current loss of –$29,050, or –5.10%.

On Apr. 24, Project Eleven awarded its Q-Day Prize to Giancarlo Lelli, a researcher who used publicly accessible quantum hardware to derive a 15-bit elliptic curve private key from its public key.

This is the largest public demonstration to date of the attack class that could one day threaten Bitcoin, Ethereum, and every other system secured by elliptic curve cryptography. The prize was one Bitcoin.

The irony is that a researcher won Bitcoin by breaking a miniature version of the math that protects Bitcoin.

A 15-bit key is nowhere near the security of Bitcoin's 256-bit elliptic curve, and no publicly known quantum computer can break real Bitcoin wallets today.
