Cipher is increasingly leaning on debt-backed, flexible financing rather than equity issuance as it scales out its AI infrastructure.

The steady stream of long-term leases suggests hyperscalers are locking in capacity early, reinforcing miners’ role as power providers rather than just bitcoin producers.

Shares of Cipher Digital (CIFR) rose more than 10% to $16.40 in early Wednesday trading after the company outlined a new AI data center lease and fresh financing.

The bitcoin miner-turned-HPC developer said it signed a 15-year lease with an unnamed hyperscale customer, its third such campus deal, and secured a revolving credit facility worth up to $200 million.

The facility, which can expand by another $50 million, was undrawn at closing and runs through March 2030. It’s priced off SOFR, a short-term interest rate benchmark, giving Cipher a relatively flexible source of capital as it continues building out data center capacity.

The update adds to a growing stack of long-term AI contracts that have reshaped the company over the past year.

Hashrate has fallen significantly from its 2025 peak of over 1 Zetahash to around 900–950 EH/s today, indicating that a portion of miners are going offline. At the same time, the economics of mining remain under pressure. With Bitcoin trading near $70K and estimated production costs still ranging between $77K and $87K, many miners are operating at or below breakeven.
Profitability metrics reinforce this trend. Hashprice — a key indicator of miner revenue — is hovering around $33 per PH/s/day, a level that challenges the viability of a wide range of mining operations. As a result, higher-cost miners are being forced to shut down or exit the market entirely.
However, this isn’t just a typical market cycle.
A growing number of mining companies are actively reallocating their infrastructure toward artificial intelligence workloads. AI computing offers more stable demand and potentially higher returns compared to the volatility of crypto mining. This shift is turning mining farms into data centers optimized for AI rather than Bitcoin.
The implications are significant.
In the short term, Bitcoin’s difficulty adjustment mechanism helps stabilize the network. But over the long run, a sustained decline in hashrate could impact network security and reshape the mining industry’s role in the ecosystem.
Bitcoin is entering a new phase — one where the competition for computational power is no longer just within crypto, but against the rapidly expanding AI economy.

Hyperliquid Strategies is deepening its footprint in crypto-linked equities with the launch of options trading for its PURR stock on the Nashdaq options market, which is mainly to enhance liquidity, price discovery, and risk management for investors.

The official statement released on March 24, says that the launch is expected to make it easier to buy and sell PURR shares and help set a fair market price. These shares give investors a cost-efficient way to gain exposure to Hyperliquid's native token, $HYPE.

The company mainly focuses on collecting $HYPE tokens and increasing their value through methods like staking, earning rewards, and actively participating in its ecosystem.

According to CEO David Schamis, the new PURR options give investors an easier way to handle risks while getting involved in the company's fast-growing ecosystem.

Further, Schamis said that the launch comes as Hyperliquid sees record activity on its platform.
