Compared to the early days of May, the global cryptocurrency market capitalization is not as strong. The value of the global cryptocurrency market was $2.56 trillion at the time of publication.

At the same time, the market cap of altcoin was $1.097 trillion.


However, the CoinMarketCap altcoin index was at 38 at the time of writing, indicating that the altcoin season has little room to occur because the Bitcoin [BTC] season is still going strong. 

Zooming out, however, shows that the cryptocurrency market is in a bullish zone because Bitcoin has returned above the $75,000 price level.

Shiba Inu has taken another leg down on the weekly chart to test a major support region after spending months hovering near historic lows.

Notably, this Shiba Inu ($SHIB) trend is within a contrasting descending triangle that has suppressed price action since the 2021 peak. While conditions remain bearish, the recent setup suggests that the prolonged correction phase may be nearing its end.

$SHIB Holds Critical Long-Term Support Zone
Analyst Aurex Finance shared this weekly chart update in a recent TradingView analysis. The commentary highlighted that the recent correction, which has seen $SHIB decline by 10% in the past seven days, has retested the key support area around $0.00000550. This aligns closely with multi-year levels that have cushioned prices since Shiba Inu’s early days in 2021.

However, the analysis highlighted that one of the more important signals on the chart is the repeated defense of the current support area. Despite persistent weakness across the broader crypto sector, sellers have struggled to force a sustained breakdown beneath the demand zone. This indicates that downside momentum may be slowing.

The GELT stablecoin would join Tether’s smaller lineup of currency-specific stablecoin products beyond its flagship USDT. Tether has previously launched tokens pegged to the Mexican peso and offshore Chinese yuan and has also announced plans for a United Arab Emirates dirham-pegged stablecoin. 

Tether’s Mexican peso-pegged MXNT launched in 2022 with initial support on Ethereum, Tron and Polygon. Its offshore Chinese yuan-pegged CNHT was created in 2019 and later expanded to Tron, while the planned UAE dirham token was announced in 2024 with backing from liquid UAE-based reserves.

The company has also developed market-specific stablecoin products. In January 2026, Tether launched USAT as a US-regulated dollar stablecoin aimed at the American market. 

Tether has also wound down some of its earlier non-USDT stablecoins. The company stopped minting its euro-pegged EURT and said redemptions ended in November 2025, while its offshore Chinese yuan-pegged CNHT is set to become non-redeemable in February 2027.
