A widely followed analyst is warning that Bitcoin (BTC) may be mirroring a 2014 bear market pattern with its latest rally.The analyst pseudonymously known as Rekt Capital tells his 560,700 followers on X that Bitcoin could rally 10% from its current value before collapsing based on historical precedence.“What we are seeing now is more akin to the 2014 macro [descending] triangle, where price is consolidating beneath the triangle base (orange). If Bitcoin continues to mirror 2014 then price could still continue to consolidate a bit more, but the base of its current triangle (~$82,500) would be the ceiling for Bitcoin.” The analyst also says that if Bitcoin forms a new consolidation phase after correcting it would indicate a bear market bottom is forming based on the 2014 pattern.“Bitcoin tends to build major consolidation periods on breakdowns from macro triangles (orange boxes). In 2018 and 2022, these major consolidation periods developed at bear market bottoms. Whereas in 2014, Bitcoin built two such periods: just beneath the macro triangle it broke down from and then later at its respective bear market bottom. Grinex Shutdown Raises Questions About Crypto Laundering Tactics

Sanctions pressure continues to test the resilience of crypto networks tied to restricted financial activity. Blockchain intelligence firm Chainalysis on April 17 examined Grinex after the sanctioned exchange suspended operations. The review described the shutdown as a new stress point for infrastructure tied to sanctions evasion.

Grinex claimed a cyberattack cost about 1 billion rubles, or $13.7 million, and published the source and destination addresses involved. Chainalysis then assessed the transfers using on-chain data rather than relying on the exchange’s narrative. The analysis found that the stolen assets were mainly a fiat-backed stablecoin before being moved through a Tron-based decentralized exchange into TRX.

“In the case of the alleged Grinex hack, the stablecoin funds were quickly swapped for a non-freezable token, thereby avoiding the risk of having the stablecoins frozen by the issuer,” the blockchain analytics firm stated, adding:

“This frantic swapping from stablecoins to more decentralized tokens is a hallmark tactic of cybercriminals and illicit actors attempting to launder funds before a centralized freeze can be executed.”

Ethereum price is basically stuck right under a ceiling, and $2,400 is the level doing all the damage, because it lines up with both resistance and the 100-day EMA, and every push into it keeps getting rejected.

The structure underneath still looks solid, though, with price holding above the 20 and 50-day averages, which keeps the bias slightly bullish as long as that holds.

Momentum is kind of neutral right now, RSI is sitting in the middle, and MACD is still weak but flattening, which usually means a bigger move is building but has not picked a direction yet.

If ETH can break above $2,400 with real volume, that is where things open up quickly toward $2,500 and higher, because the structure is already in place for continuation.

But if it keeps failing at this level, a pullback becomes more likely, with $2,200 as the first area that needs to hold, and if that goes, it can slide further down fast.

So this is one of those tight setups where everything comes down to one level, break it, and it runs, fail it again, and it pulls back.

With Bitcoin trading above Strategy’s average purchase price of $75,577, the company returned to an unrealized profit position, with market commentary placing paper gains at about $1.37 billion.
MSTR also gained during the session as traders responded to the broader recovery in risk assets. At one point during market hours, the stock was up 13.83% and trading near $169.54. Separate market updates also showed the stock ahead by about 8% on the day. The move came as Bitcoin strength improved sentiment around companies with direct digital asset exposure.

Bitcoin Breakout Lifts Strategy Back Into Profit

Bitcoin’s move above $77,000 marked its strongest level since the correction that followed the February 5 selloff, when the asset fell close to $60,000. On April 17, Bitcoin traded around $78,209.10 in one market update, while another reading placed it near $77,286.74. That price recovery mattered for Strategy because the company’s large treasury position leaves its valuation highly sensitive to changes in Bitcoin.

Strategy now holds 780,897 BTC, according to the reports. At current price levels, those holdings were valued at about $60.817 billion. Since the company’s average Bitcoin purchase price stands at $75,577, the latest market move pushed the firm back above its cost basis. That change reversed part of the pressure seen in the first quarter, when Strategy reported about $14.5 billion in unrealized paper losses.
