SEC charges Donald Basile in $16M crypto fraud tied to ‘insured’ token

The US Securities and Exchange Commission has filed a lawsuit against crypto executive Donald Basile, accusing him and two companies he controlled of raising about $16 million from investors through false claims tied to a so-called “insured” crypto token known as Bitcoin Latinum.

In a complaint filed Friday in the US District Court for the Eastern District of New York, the SEC alleged that Basile ran the scheme between March and December 2021 through Monsoon Blockchain Corp. and GIBF GP Inc., offering investors Simple Agreements for Future Tokens (SAFTs) that promised future delivery of the token, according to a report from The Wall Street Journal.

Regulators said hundreds of investors were told the asset was backed and insured, but the SEC alleged no insurance company ever provided coverage or any proof that these claims were true, per the report.

The case marks one of the few SEC enforcement actions under the Trump administration, which has signaled a more crypto-friendly regulatory stance compared to previous administrations.

Bittensor Price Faces Correction After Soaring Past $265

On April 17, Bittensor ($TAO) price witnessed an upward momentum with a surge of 7% on a daily chart following a rally in the Bitcoin ($BTC) price, but failed to hold its position and faced a quick correction on the daily chart.

On Friday, the overall crypto market sparked a bullish sentiment in the market, which helped most altcoins to gain a spike. The main reason behind the rally in the crypto market is the major development in peace talks between the U.S. and Iran. Apart from this, recently, artificial intelligence-related tokens have also attracted the attention of investors due to their real utility.

At the time of writing, Bittensor ($TAO) is trading at around $252.30 with a market capitalization of around $2.82 billion, according to CoinMarketCap. The daily trading volume also jumped by 37% in the last 24 hours and is currently revolving around $396.22 million.

Bittensor ($TAO) Price Struggles to Break Consolidation Pattern

According to the current price chart, the surge in the cryptocurrency came after a bounce from a major Fibonacci support level. This bounce was also supported by a 41% surge in trading volume.

On Friday, Bitcoin ($BTC) gained an upward momentum and rallied above $78,000. Amid this, Bittensor has also witnessed a small spike before returning to its pre-rally state.

Demand zone shifts short-term bias

The $1.4 zone has now proven to be more than just temporary support. It acted as a base, and the rebound from it has shifted the short-term structure back in favor of buyers.

However, the path to test higher points of interest is not completely open. The market is now approaching a layered resistance area that could slow things down.

Beyond the current supply zone, the larger objective sits around $1.67. This level represents both a prior high and a clear liquidity target.

Markets tend to gravitate toward such levels, especially when momentum is already building. A liquidity cluster worth 4.66 million at the 1.66 resistance level underlines the price level as a key target for Ripple buyers.

Still, reaching that level will depend on how price behaves within the $1.5–$1.6 range. A clean push through could open the path toward $1.67. A rejection, on the other hand, may lead to a pause or brief consolidation.
