💸 Funds on the move
On-chain data shows that around 75,700 ETH (~$175 million) has already been transferred across newly created wallets:
25,000 ETH sent to a fresh address
50,700 ETH split into another wallet
Smaller test transfers (like 0.7 ETH) used to probe routes
Even more concerning: part of these funds has already passed through privacy-focused protocols like THORChain and Umbra.
That’s usually the point where recovery becomes significantly harder.
🧩 A ripple effect across DeFi
This isn’t just a single protocol problem anymore — it’s spreading:
Arbitrum has already frozen 30,766 ETH tied to the exploit
Aave could be facing $123M–$230M in bad debt
The attacker reportedly used stolen funds as collateral to borrow more assets
It’s the DeFi version of a domino effect.
⚠️ The core issue: a single point of failure
At the center of the debate is LayerZero.
LayerZero claims the breach was caused by a 1-of-1 verifier setup — meaning:
Only one validator was needed to approve cross-chain messages.
That effectively created a single point of failure, allowing a malicious transaction to be treated as legitimate.
Kelp DAO, however, disputes this:
Says the setup followed default configurations
Argues the vulnerable component is part of LayerZero’s own infrastructure
So now, the question isn’t just what failed — but who is responsible.

As the stablecoin market recorded $75.6 trillion in total transaction volume in the past year, Pablo Hernández de Cos, General Manager at the Bank for International Settlements (BIS), opened a fresh chapter on stablecoins.

In a speech at a Bank of Japan seminar on the 20th of April, Hernández de Cos highlighted that despite moments of growth, the stablecoin market cap as of April 2026 was roughly around $315 billion.

The BIS manager sees this market cap as a dwarf version of the $8 trillion held alone in bank deposits in the U.S.

Kevin Warsh says he would protect Fed independence and could cut rates at confirmation hearing

Kevin Warsh told senators at his Senate confirmation hearing on Tuesday that he would keep monetary policy independent from the White House and signaled openness to lower interest rates as he seeks to succeed Jerome Powell as Federal Reserve chair.

His appearance before the committee comes as Trump has intensified his attacks on Powell for being too slow to cut rates, putting Warsh at the center of a growing political fight over the Fed. Trump formally sent Warsh’s nomination to the Senate in March for a four year term as chair and a separate 14 year term on the Board of Governors.

At his Senate Banking Committee hearing, Warsh said he would be independent of Trump, argued that Fed independence ultimately depends on the central bank itself, and said elected officials questioning the Fed does not by itself destroy that independence.

In prepared remarks and testimony, he also said the Fed’s credibility has been damaged by its failure to contain inflation and by what he sees as mission drift beyond core goals such as price stability.

Warsh also used the hearing to sketch out a different policy framework from the current Fed leadership. He said tariffs were not the reason inflation is running high, argued the economy is improving and has room to improve further, and criticized the Fed’s balance sheet as having played an unhelpful role in meeting its mandates.

He said he would prefer interest rates to be the dominant policy tool and argued that if rates were cut, the benefits would reach a broader range of Americans. Warsh has also pointed to productivity gains, including from AI, as support for lower rates, even as other Fed officials have been more cautious.

Singapore’s OCBC launches tokenized gold fund on Ethereum and Solana
OCBC, one of Singapore’s largest banking and financial services corporations, has launched a tokenized physical gold fund, with the underlying token, GOLDX, issued on both Ethereum and Solana.

The launch was made together with its asset management arm, Lion Global Investors and digital asset exchange DigiFT. The token is aimed at institutional investors, hedge funds and asset managers and can be bought and sold using both stablecoins and fiat currencies. After subscription, the token is delivered directly to investors’ blockchain wallets, OCBC said on Monday.

Kenneth Lai, head of global markets at OCBC, said the move is part of a new corporate strategy and a milestone in the corporation’s blockchain-focused approach.

“We believe digital assets will play an increasingly important role in financial services and our focus is on bridging traditional finance with the emerging world of decentralized finance,” he said.
The value of tokenized real-world assets on public blockchains has been on the rise in 2026, and is sitting at over $29 billion, up over 10% in the last 30 days, according to data from rwa.xyz.
