US spot Bitcoin ETFs experienced a significant influx of $411.5 million following Goldman Sachs' filing for a new Bitcoin ETF, boosting market confidence.

Bitcoin's price briefly surpassed $75,000 before retreating, indicating ongoing market volatility despite increased institutional demand.

All major Bitcoin ETF issuers saw inflows, with BlackRock's IBIT leading at $214 million, reflecting strong institutional interest in digital assets.

Altcoin ETFs also saw positive inflows, particularly Ether, suggesting a broader recovery in the crypto market beyond just Bitcoin.

While defensive positioning has become a common theme in the Bitcoin (BTC) market, research and brokerage firm K33 says that persistently negative funding conditions, coupled with rising open interest and increasing prices, indicate increased short-selling aggression, raising the likelihood of a future short squeeze.

Veter Lunde, Head of Research at K33, noted in a new report that the 30-day average funding rate for Bitcoin derivatives has been negative for 46 consecutive days. This coincides with the duration of negative funding mechanisms seen around the end of the 2022 bear market.

Lundde stated, "With the recent tightening of funding rates and the unusually persistent negative interest rate environment, we believe the likelihood of Bitcoin prices reaching new highs and breaking out of the 68-day consolidation range is increasing."

Lundde points out that periods of rising notional open interest, rising Bitcoin prices, and negative daily, 7-day, and 30-day average funding rates often occur near consolidation bottoms.

 “The current native market positioning of cryptocurrencies aligns with these conditions, which is why we highlighted funding rate mechanisms in our reports over the past month and why we maintain our bullish outlook on Bitcoin,” he said.

According to K33’s analysis, only the periods of consecutive negative 30-day funding rates were March to May 2020 (63 days) and June to August 2021 (49 days).

Pakistan Ends 7-Year Bitcoin & Crypto Ban for Banks

Pakistan's central bank replaced its 2018 crypto ban, letting banks serve PVARA-licensed crypto firms under strict AML and KYC rules.

Banks remain prohibited from trading, investing in, or holding crypto assets with their own funds or customer deposits.

Pakistan, already the world's third-largest retail crypto market with 40 million participants, is also pursuing bitcoin mining expansion and a national stablecoin.

Pakistan’s central bank has notified all banks and financial institutions that the country’s seven-year ban on providing Bitcoin & crypto services has been lifted.

The move follows the enactment of the 2026 Virtual Assets Act, which established Pakistan’s Virtual Asset Regulatory Authority (PVARA) to license, regulate and supervise the sector.

While banks may now serve licensed crypto firms, they remain barred from investing, trading or holding crypto assets using their own funds or customer deposits.

Under the new framework, banks can open accounts for virtual asset service providers (VASPs) licensed under PVARA, including those still seeking approval, provided they comply with strict anti-money laundering (AML), know-your-customer (KYC), and counter-terrorism financing rules.

The State Bank of Pakistan stated:

“Subject to strict compliance with the conditions outlined herein, SBP Regulated Entities may open bank accounts of entities duly licensed by PVARA as Virtual Asset Service Providers.”
