NYSE parent may invest again in Polymarket as valuation crosses $20B: report
Intercontinental Exchange has signaled it may put more money into Polymarket’s next funding round after building a $1.64 billion stake in the prediction market platform.

Bloomberg reported Thursday that ICE Chief Executive Officer Jeff Sprecher said the New York Stock Exchange parent would consider participating if its involvement could help Polymarket complete the round.

“We’ll look at it, if it would help the round in order to have our imprimatur on it, we are always interested,” Sprecher told Bloomberg Television.

ICE may join Polymarket’s new funding round

Polymarket is seeking fresh capital at a valuation above $20 billion, according to Bloomberg, more than twice the valuation attached to the company in October. The report said the platform has continued to draw investor interest as prediction markets expand across sports, politics, geopolitics and other event based contracts.

ICE has already participated in two Polymarket funding rounds, with Bloomberg putting the exchange operator’s stake at $1.64 billion by March. Sprecher said the relationship was designed partly to allow the companies to exchange information and expertise, instead of turning ICE into a regular investor in technology startups.

As crypto.news reported in March, ICE invested another $600 million in Polymarket as part of a previously announced commitment of up to $2 billion. ICE said at the time that the investment was not expected to have a material effect on its financial results or capital return plans.

“The reality is we’re not a venture firm,” Sprecher said Thursday, describing the Polymarket investment as a relationship built around the “transfer of information and expertise.”

Bitcoin Blasts Past $68,000 After US Treasury Doubles Debt Buybacks

Bitcoin is closing in on $70,000 for the first time since June.

Bitcoin blew past $68,000 on Wednesday, jumping nearly 3% over a 24-hour period after news dropped that the U.S. Treasury planned to more than double the size of its government debt repurchases. 

The price of Bitcoin was recently at $68,473 at 10.30am in New York after briefly touching $68,982. The sharp jump came as yields dropped. 

Over the past week, the biggest and oldest cryptocurrency is up over 3%. Bitcoin had recently been flat over a 30-day period but is now also up by close to 3%. 

The Treasury Department said Wednesday that it will more than double the size of its government debt repurchases due to fixed income markets under pressure and yields surging to levels not seen in nearly 20 years.

“This increase in buyback operation sizes reflects Treasury’s desire to provide greater liquidity support in longer-dated nominal sectors where there is consistent strong sponsorship from market participants, as evidenced by the significant volume of  high-quality offers Treasury routinely receives in longer-dated buyback operations,” the department said in a statement. 

Lower long-term yields reduces the opportunity cost of holding non-yielding assets like bitcoin and gold, and generally supports risk-on sentiment. 

Bitcoin behaved like a “risk-on” asset on the news, surging with stocks on the news, as the U.S. dollar fell sharply. 

The leading cryptocurrency has been battered since notching a new all-time high of $126,080 in October but has still experienced the shallowest bear market — so far — in its history. 

The coin’s volatility also stands at record lows: 2025 was the least volatile year for the asset and asset manager Fidelity on Wednesday said that its volatility is now lower than 98.5% of all days in its 17-year history.

Ripple has joined forces with Clearpool and Cicada Partners to bring real-world credit to the $XRP Ledger (XRPL), according to an Aug. 20 statement.

The companies aim to create an an onchain lending model for institutional investors backed by Clearpool’s lending infrastructure, Cicada’s credit underwriting, and Ripple’s investment capital.

The effort comes as the partners argue that most DeFi yield is still generated by crypto market activity rather than productive lending.

Shiba Inu (SHIB) Up 12% as $3 Billion Short Squeeze Fuels Crypto Market Rally

Shiba Inu rose more than 12% after several catalysts sent crypto-related assets higher. The crypto market suddenly sprang back to life, unleashing $3.1 billion in short liquidations, the largest in records dating back to 2021.

At the time of writing, Shiba Inu was trading at $0.00000495, extending yesterday's surge from a low of $0.00000443. The dog-themed token briefly touched an intraday high of $0.00000502 early Thursday before retreating slightly.

Shiba Inu is trading higher by 10% over the last seven days amid an ongoing market rally boosted by an appeal to Congress to pass crypto market-structure legislation following the White House's high-stakes meeting with crypto industry leaders, as well as signs of greater liquidity in the Treasury market.

There are also indications that the Clarity Act may finally be going through the Senate. At the SALT conference on Tuesday, Tim Scott, who oversees the Banking Committee, said that the Clarity bill had a high chance of advancing in September, with a procedural vote expected for September 15.

Cryptocurrency exchange UEX US has listed $SHIB in fresh listing news. UEX US now offers $SHIB/USDT trading, along with a rewards scheme with 4.5% annual returns, loans secured with $SHIB as collateral, and purchases via PayPal, bank transfers, and card payments. As $SHIB starts to bounce back, the number of ways to trade, hold and use it grows.

$3.1 billion short liquidations hit market
Total liquidations reached $3.38 billion across 192,002 traders, according to CoinGlass. Shorts accounted for the majority of this figure, coming in at $3.1 billion to mark the largest wave of forced short closures in records going back to 2021.

Dogecoin Cofounder Breaks Silence on Crypto Rally: Ask 2 Questions
The crypto market suddenly sprang back to life, sending Bitcoin and the majority of crypto assets, including Dogecoin, higher.

At the time of writing, Dogecoin was trading up 10% at $0.0771, extending yesterday's surge from a low of $0.069. The dog-themed coin briefly touched an intraday high of $0.078 early Thursday before retreating slightly.

In his characteristic manner, Dogecoin cofounder Billy Markus, who goes by Shibetoshi Nakamoto on X, commented on the crypto market surge in a social media post.

Markus shared a screenshot that showed the surge, with most assets in the green, and asked two questions that had several question marks interspersed with exclamation marks: "is crypto back? is the 2026 nightmare over?" The question "is the 2026 nightmare over?" highlights the uncertainty in the crypto market following a difficult period in 2026.
Cryptocurrencies had seen months of selling since last October when a major flash crash liquidated a record $19 billion in the market.

Is crypto back?

Markus's screenshot showed the rise of various assets including BTC, S&P 500, Ethereum, Solana, and Dogecoin. Notably, the mentioned crypto assets outperformed the S&P 500, which was only up 0.21% in the timeframe according to the screenshot.

In the financial markets, traders are digesting the latest Federal Open Market Committee minutes from July, released Wednesday, which seemed to offer less help to the bulls. Most officials backed keeping rates unchanged at the Fed's July meeting, but several favored a hike.

This might have somewhat contributed to the minor gains in the S&P 500, with cryptocurrencies outperforming. This background might have prompted the Dogecoin cofounder to ask whether crypto was back.
