Bitcoin Holds Key Price Floor Despite Weak Bullish Signals: Bitfinex Alpha
Over the past week, bitcoin ($BTC) has traded between $62,000 and $72,000. Despite bullish conditions not being fulfilled, the leading digital asset has managed to hold its floor.

Analysts at the crypto exchange Bitfinex revealed in the latest Bitfinex Alpha report that the current crypto market environment is being reshaped by shifting Federal Reserve expectations and inflation risks. These factors have created near-term pressure for risk assets like gold and $BTC; regardless, the floor of the latter has remained intact.

Bitcoin in Limbo

On-chain data shows that neither bulls nor bears are firmly in control. With $BTC trading within the $62,500–$72,000 consolidation zone, the market appears to be in limbo, rather than a sustained bearish phase.

Bitfinex analysts outlined two bullish tests for a potential sustained uptrend on lower timeframes, but they all failed. The tests were a sustained spot exchange-traded fund (ETF) market bid and a calming of the derivatives complex, with funding moving from neutral to negative.

In the face of the failure, there are now two opposing forces pulling at market sentiment on inflation: the potential of softening energy risks following a peace deal between the U.S. and Iran and the Fed’s focus on inflationary heat rather than the immediate relief in crude prices.

For $BTC to continue holding its floor, the Fed needs to be willing to “hold its nerve,” according to experts. It remains to be seen how the market will move until this happens

Analysts further explained that ETFs are currently the primary proof of the market’s indecisiveness. These products have failed to establish a bullish trend and have instead reverted to net redemptions. Bitcoin price taces midweek squeeze that will decide whether $60,000 holdsBitcoin price faces back-to-back tests this week, with May PCE coming out on Thursday at 8:30 a.m. EDT and more than $10 billion in Bitcoin options settling on Deribit at 08:00 UTC Friday in the quarterly expiry that closes the second quarter.

Bitcoin is trading near $62,500 after a rough June that briefly pushed it under $60,000 and left it ranging between $62,000 and $67,000.

A surprise in the inflation print could land while billions in contracts are already sliding toward settlement, with the hedging that follows risking a sharper move than the data alone would produce.

We've seen this play out once already this year. On March 27, $14.1 billion in Bitcoin options and $2.2 billion in Ethereum contracts expired into a market hit by an oil shock, rising yields, and fading rate-cut hopes, and Bitcoin dropped toward $66,200 that morning as dealer hedging turned an ordinary drop into a faster one.

A hot PCE inflation backdrop

The last PCE report gave the Fed cover to stay tight, with headline PCE rising 3.8% in April from a year earlier, nearly double the 2% target, and core holding at 3.3%, its highest since October 2023

Ethereum is facing a renewed debate over how to fund its long-term development, but a controversial proposal to tax staking rewards may already be losing momentum as alternative funding models rapidly emerge.

The discussion began after concerns surfaced about Ethereum's future funding sustainability. Some community members warned that core development organizations could face financial pressure in the coming months, leading to proposals that would redirect a portion of validator staking rewards toward ecosystem development and research. Estimates suggested that such a mechanism could generate tens of thousands of ETH annually for public goods funding.

However, the proposal has been met with significant resistance from validators, stakers, and decentralization advocates. Critics argue that reducing staking rewards could weaken incentives, create governance complications, and increase concerns about centralized control over Ethereum's funding mechanisms.

At the same time, a new alternative is gaining traction. Organizations such as EthLabs and other ecosystem initiatives are exploring direct funding from large ETH holders, institutions, and independent contributors rather than relying on protocol-level taxes. Supporters believe this voluntary model aligns better with Ethereum's decentralized philosophy and avoids introducing additional burdens on validators.

The debate comes during a period of significant change for Ethereum. The Ethereum Foundation has already implemented budget reductions, restructuring efforts, and a broader shift toward a more distributed ecosystem where multiple organizations share responsibility for growth, research, and adoption. StarkWare introduces 'Private KYC' to address personal data breachesZero-knowledge scaling company StarkWare has introduced Private KYC on Starknet, enabling users to complete know-your-customer requirements without revealing their full personal information.

The system, announced Tuesday as a demo, uses STRK20 privacy features and zero-knowledge STARK proofs to let users prove specific attributes, such as being older than 18 or holding valid credentials, without revealing their full passport details or address.

"Whether you need to prove you're over 18, hold a valid credential or meet an eligibility rule, verification should only confirm the precise fact," StarkWare said. Corporations should not collect the full identity behind it, "because every identity database becomes a liability the moment it exists."

KYC compliance involves handing over personal information and trusting companies to keep it safe. The rollout comes as the US hit a record 3,322 data compromises in 2025, a 79% increase over five years, and the global average cost of a data breach is $4.4 million, according to StationX.

StarkWare users start by scanning their passport on their phones, using the camera and NFC chip to read and confirm the document is genuine and signed by its issuing authority.

They can then encrypt identity data to their Starknet wallet, register attributes in a public onchain registry, and submit zero-knowledge proofs for selective checks. Verifiers can confirm eligibility by reading the public registry without ever seeing the actual
