It is predicted that the cryptocurrency market may struggle to find a clear direction in the short term, and the current sideways price movement may continue for some time.

A recent market assessment published by crypto trading company QCP Capital states that Bitcoin and the overall crypto market need new macroeconomic and industry-specific catalysts to initiate a strong uptrend.

According to the company’s analysis, Bitcoin attracted attention yesterday by rising above the $65,000 level. This rise was attributed to Strategy’s additional Bitcoin purchases and positive news flow regarding the company’s increased cash reserves. However, uncertainty remains as to whether this increase signals a lasting trend reversal.

QCP Capital highlighted that a mixed picture currently prevails across a wide range of risk assets, particularly in US equity markets. Noting the continued rotation of capital across sectors, the company stated that it is not yet clear to what extent these fund flows will be reflected in the cryptocurrency market.

The analysis also addressed various macroeconomic risks that are weighing on investor confidence. Ongoing geopolitical tensions between the US and Iran, market concerns surrounding Strategy’s STRC perpetual preferred stock issuance, and the stance of the new Federal Reserve chairman Kevin Warsh supporting tight monetary policies were cited as factors reducing risk appetite.

Cardano Founder Reveals SpaceX Discussion Details, Shares Bullish Crypto PredictionWhile short-term market weakness continues to worry investors, Cardano founder Charles Hoskinson said that many traders are missing the bigger catch. Speaking in a recent podcast, Hoskinson urged the crypto community to stop focusing on daily price swings and instead pay attention to the massive long-term growth happening across the industry. Hoskinson made it clear that short-term price drops do not change his overall outlook on crypto, especially regarding Cardano development and adoption.

“Crypto is the opt out. Crypto is the exit. Crypto is the solution,” Hoskinson said.

According to him, market ups and downs are normal, but the broader trend remains firmly upward. He pointed out that the crypto industry already has around 550 million users worldwide and expects that number to grow to one billion by 2030. As a result, Cardano could see even greater adoption in the coming years.

Hoskinson also predicted that a good portion of global financial assets could eventually move on-chain, with Cardano potentially playing a significant role.

“There’s 550 million people in the cryptocurrency ecosystem, and there’s going to be a billion by 2030,” he said.

Adoption vs. Usage: A Critical Gap

The report projects that a 90% merchant acceptance rate would lead to an 18.5% adoption rate — meaning roughly one in five customers would register and hold the stablecoin in a digital wallet. However, the actual usage rate for payments would drop sharply to 4.4%. In practical terms, this means that even with near-universal availability, only about four out of every 100 customers would use the stablecoin for transactions.

The study highlights a recurring challenge in the digital payments industry: registration does not equal active use. Consumers may hold stablecoins for speculative purposes, as a store of value, or due to inertia, but converting that holding into routine transactional behavior remains a significant hurdle.

Implications for South Korea’s Digital Currency Strategy

South Korea has been a notable testbed for digital currency innovation, with the Bank of Korea actively exploring a central bank digital currency (CBDC) pilot program. The findings from the Korea Institute of Finance suggest that simply ensuring merchant acceptance is insufficient to drive widespread stablecoin usage. The Ethereum Foundation (EF) is facing intensifying industry criticism over its financial management and organizational strategy, with prominent figures in the decentralized finance (DeFi) space questioning the foundation’s ability to sustain core development operations.

Industry leaders question EF’s financial stewardship

Marc Zeller, founder of the Aave governance group Aave Chan Initiative (ACI), publicly criticized the EF on X, arguing that the foundation could have been operated efficiently with basic budgeting principles. Zeller suggested that the EF should have used its substantial ETH reserves as collateral to generate yield, funding only high-impact projects rather than what he described as “52 clients that nobody uses or meetups in Lesotho.” He further noted that after the delayed transition to Proof-of-Stake (PoS), the EF could have staked its vast ETH holdings to generate returns sufficient to fund operations indefinitely. “If the EF hits a wall, it doesn’t deserve help. Ethereum will be fine though,” Zeller concluded, signaling a lack of confidence in the foundation’s leadership.

Keyring Network founder Alex McPharlane added that financial management and DeFi were treated as “taboo subjects” within the EF, where employees focused on financial concerns were viewed as not prioritizing the broader mission. “Now the funding shortage is a reality,” McPharlane stated. He estimated that the EF holds between $500 million and $900 million in liquid assets, which he argued should be more than sufficient to cover an annual budget of $20 million to $30 million. He characterized the inability to manage these resources effectively as “incompetent.”

Another wave of panic has hit the crypto market. Bitcoin is falling, Ethereum is bleeding, and altcoins are rapidly losing momentum as traders rush to exit leveraged positions. More than $660 million has already been wiped out in liquidations, turning what began as a pullback into a full-scale risk-off event. 

With sentiment collapsing and key technical levels breaking down, investors are now facing a difficult question: why is the crypto market crashing today and is the worse still ahead?

Liquidation Cascade Triggers Market-Wide Selloff

The biggest driver behind today’s decline appears to be the massive liquidation event across derivatives markets. More than $660 million worth of crypto positions were wiped out over the past 24 hours, with long traders suffering the overwhelming majority of losses. Bitcoin and Ethereum accounted for a large portion of these liquidations as leveraged positions were automatically closed.

X user Crypto With Gopal spotted the formation of a classic “head and shoulders pattern” on PI’s price chart: a bearish structure which suggests that a correction could be on the horizon. At the same time, the analyst claimed that buyers are fighting to defend the neckline “aggressively and bulls are trying to reclaim momentum.”

“Market psychology shows sellers losing strength as the right shoulder develops,” they added.

Another prediction came from the X account Pi Network News, which noted PI’s bounce from the $0.13 support level and claimed that $0.14 remains “a key sell wall.” They argued that bulls need Bitcoin (BTC) to hold above $60,000 so PI can benefit, too.

“Next resistance: $0.15–$0.155 if momentum builds,” the analysis reads.
