Russia-Ukraine War: Fresh Strikes Injure Civilians as Fuel Crisis Worsens in Russia - EconoTimes

Six people were injured in overnight Russian air strikes across Ukraine, according to local officials, while Kyiv briefly issued an air raid alert early Tuesday, urging residents to seek shelter. The latest attacks highlight the continuing intensity of the Russia-Ukraine war, which has now entered its fifth year.The strikes followed a Ukrainian drone attack on an electronics plant in Russia’s Voronezh region on Monday. Local authorities reported that the attack killed five people and wounded dozens more. Both countries have continued exchanging aerial attacks as fighting persists along multiple fronts.In Ukraine, two civilians sought medical treatment after Russian strikes hit the Zaporizhzhia region, Governor Ivan Fedorov said. Emergency services also reported that three people were injured in the northern Sumy region. Meanwhile, a woman was wounded in a drone attack on Kharkiv, Ukraine’s second-largest city.Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy continues to seek stronger support from Western allies, advocating for a peace agreement while pushing for accelerated European Union membership. Last week, Zelenskiy warned that Russia was preparing large-scale attacks, a claim that comes amid ongoing military escalation.The conflict is also causing economic strain inside Russia. Ukrainian strikes targeting supply routes, maritime logistics, and energy infrastructure have contributed to a growing fuel shortage in Russia and Russian-controlled territories. Ukrainian forces have reportedly struck energy facilities located thousands of kilometers from the front line, affecting gasoline and diesel supplies.The fuel crisis has expanded from Crimea to eastern regions and even reached Omsk in southwestern Siberia. Omsk Governor Vitaly Khotsenko announced temporary fuel rationing measures, limiting gasoline purchases to 40 liters per vehicle and restricting diesel sales depending on location. Fuel sales in containers have also been prohibited to prevent panic buying and market speculation.The war has prompted European nations to increase defense spending and strengthen military cooperation with Ukraine. It also played a major role in Finland and Sweden joining NATO.
