New York Magazine has reported new details about Sam Bankman-Fried’s life in prison, including a remark that he may launch a new cryptocurrency after leaving custody.

Bankman-Fried, the founder of FTX, is serving a 25-year sentence after his 2023 fraud and conspiracy conviction. The report says he remains at a federal prison in Lompoc, California, while he pursues legal and political routes to freedom.

Prison report revives token talk
The article says fellow inmate David Bunevacz asked Bankman-Fried what he would do if he got out. Bankman-Fried reportedly said a serious business would need $50 million to $100 million in starting capital before adding that he would “start my own coin.”

Bunevacz told the magazine that Bankman-Fried also said “everyone’s gonna jump on it.” He later added that Bankman-Fried may have been joking and that people probably would not rush to buy it. The remark still drew attention because FTX’s collapse remains one of crypto’s most watched criminal cases.

TON price took a sharp hit on June 16 after news emerged that India had temporarily restricted access to Telegram until June 22, triggering fresh uncertainty around the messaging platform most closely associated with The Open Network ecosystem.

The move came after an NTA recommendation, with India’s Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology reportedly invoking Section 69A of the Information Technology Act, 2000. According to the statement, access to Telegram has been restricted across India for seven days, while message-editing features for Indian users have been ordered disabled until June 30.

Telegram Ban Sparks Fresh TON Concerns
Markets don’t wait around for lengthy debates. Instead, they react. Following the announcement, TON price dropped from $1.80 to $1.625 during the intraday session, marking a decline of more than 10%. The selloff added pressure to a trend that had already been unfolding since early May, when the token peaked near $2.90.

Meanwhile, the temporary Telegram restriction has reignited concerns about how regulatory actions could affect sentiment around TON.

Founder Pushes Back Against Restrictions
Adding another layer to the story, Telegram founder Pavel Durov publicly criticized the decision.

According to his comments, the restriction affects more than 150 million ordinary users in India. Durov argued that Telegram itself was not responsible for leaked examination materials and claimed that restricting the platform merely shifted activity elsewhere rather than solving the underlying issue.

Even so, traders appeared more focused on immediate uncertainty than broader philosophical arguments.

Bitcoin-based decentralized finance (DeFi) projects are narrowing their focus to institutional investors and long-term holders as a broad market liquidity contraction reshapes the sector, according to Richard Green, director of institutions and ecosystem at Rootstock Labs, the investment arm of the Bitcoin layer-2 network Rootstock ($RIF).

Market Contraction Reshapes DeFi Strategy

In an interview with The Block, Green explained that as significant funds have exited the DeFi market, core customer segments—including crypto-native traders and hedge funds—have substantially reduced their activity. The DeFi sector is currently shrinking due to a large-scale decrease in overall liquidity, forcing projects to adapt their strategies.

“The overall market has become smaller, but there is still sufficient liquidity and demand within specific areas,” Green said. As a result, Bitcoin DeFi projects are concentrating on groups with clear, sustained demand—such as institutions, long-term Bitcoin holders, and operators of specific yield strategies—rather than attempting to serve the entire market.

Crypto PAC-backed Barry Moore wins Alabama GOP Senate runoff

Barry Moore won Alabama’s Republican Senate runoff after more than $12 million in pro-crypto PAC support helped carry his campaign into the November general election.

The race now becomes one of its clearest Senate bets this year.

The result gives Fairshake-linked groups another win in the 2026 primary season. Moore defeated former Navy SEAL Jared Hudson in the race to replace Senator Tommy Tuberville, who is running for Alabama governor.

Crypto PAC spending pays off in Alabama

Unofficial results from the Alabama Secretary of State showed Moore with 55.80% of the vote, compared with 44.20% for Hudson. All 67 counties had reported results as of late Tuesday.

Moore will face Democrat Everett Wess in November. Alabama remains a strongly Republican state, which gives Moore a favorable path after winning the GOP nomination.

Defend American Jobs, a Republican super PAC tied to Fairshake, spent heavily to support Moore. The group reported $7.4 million in media spending before the May 20 primary and another $4.7 million before the runoff.

Federal Election Commission records list Defend American Jobs as an active independent expenditure-only super PAC. The committee cannot coordinate directly with campaigns, but it can spend on media and ads.

Fairshake spokesman Geoff Vetter said “our biggest spend of the cycle” produced another pro-innovation Senate candidate. He also said the network still has nearly $150 million in cash as it keeps building a larger pro-crypto caucus.
