Iran declares Strait of Hormuz fully open, Bitcoin flirts with $77K

The Strait of Hormuz has been fully reopened to commercial shipping during the ongoing ceasefire between Israel and Lebanon, with ships required to follow a designated route established by Iranian authorities, said Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi in a Friday statement.

Bitcoin inched higher toward $77,000 on the news after trading earlier in the $74,600-$75,746 range, while oil prices tumbled. Crude dropped 11.5% to near $84 and Brent declined more than 10% to around $89.

President Donald Trump responded by thanking Iran for the move.

The Strait of Hormuz, a critical chokepoint for global oil transportation, witnessed a full closure in early March 2026 as tensions escalated between the US and Iran following military actions initiated by the US. The crisis led to the longest period of oil supply disruptions since the 1973 oil embargo, with prices exceeding record highs and severe impacts on global markets.

Bitcoin whales just bought the most BTC since 2013 so why is the price stuck below $80,000?

Whales quietly drain exchange supply as ETFs and treasuries test how Bitcoin behaves in a thinner, more fragile market.

Bitcoin has spent much of 2026 moving between recovery attempts and macro shocks, yet one part of the market has kept moving in a single direction.

Large holders have been buying.

On April 16, Bitfinex highlighted CryptoQuant data showing whales accumulated 270,000 BTC over the previous 30 days, the largest buying spree since 2013, while exchange reserves fell to their lowest level since December 2017.

That combination carries more weight than usual, pointing to a market where available supply is thinning beneath the surface, even while price remains far below the October 2025 all-time high of $126,198.

As of press time, CryptoSlate's Bitcoin data page shows BTC trading near $74,500, up 0.9% over 24 hours, 3.3% over seven days, and 0.7% over 30 days. Market capitalization stands near $1.5 trillion, and 24-hour volume is just above $41.2 billion.

Currently, the price seems to be tightening around this key area. Here, the support and resistance dynamics are expected to dictate the next significant direction as indicated by the market expert. According to Ali, this make-or-break zone has historically acted as the ultimate pivot for ADA’s trend.

This is backed by past scenarios where hitting this level becomes the launchpad for significant rebounds. At this point, a continued upward action falls into the bulls’ hands. If these investors can defend this floor, the positioning could set the stage for a relief rally toward the $0.03 resistance.

However, when ADA fails to hold here and loses the zone on a daily close, it would be a major structural failure and shift into a bearish phase. Ali highlighted that the breakdown here could expose ADA to a deeper correction, potentially testing the yearly lows near the
