The American Bankers Association (ABA) has issued a dire warning regarding the possible destabilization of the U.S. banking system, claiming that the growth of interest-bearing stablecoins might set off a sizable outflow of retail deposits. Challenging a recent White House Council of Economic Advisers (CEA) report which downplayed these risks, the ABA cites Treasury estimates suggesting that widespread adoption of yield-bearing digital assets could result in a staggering USD 6.6 trillion outflow from traditional financial institutions. This "deposit flight" poses an especially grave threat to community banks, which depend on inexpensive deposits to finance local lending and would have to bear considerably greater funding expenses should they be compelled to compete with stablecoin yields.The heart of the conflict is the large difference in interest rates between regular savings accounts and new digital assets. Many regular bank accounts provide rates as low as 0.5%; stablecoin platforms are progressively aiming to provide yields between 3% and 4%, a difference the ABA expects will inevitably draw customers away from the controlled banking industry. Saylor said the company acquired 13,927 BTC for approximately $1 billion, at a price of $71,902 per BTC. The purchase was made entirely with proceeds from the sale of STRC, a non-dilutive common stock. STRC is Strategy's Series A variable-rate perpetual preferred stock, which currently pays a variable monthly dividend of 11.5%. Strategy currently owns 780,897 BTC, acquired for $59.02 billion. The company, whose shares trade on the Nasdaq under the ticker MSTR, is the world's largest corporate holder of Bitcoin and the first public company to adopt BTC as its sole treasury reserve asset. At the time of writing, Bitcoin is trading at $71,461. The world's number one cryptocurrency by market cap has risen 0.75% in the past 24 hours and more than 2.5% over the past seven days. Republican Senator Thom Tillis said he may publicly release a draft agreement to resolve the stablecoin yield debate in the upcoming Clarity Act.

Banks have been pushing back against allowing crypto firms to pay rewards on idle stablecoin balances.

U.S. Senator Thom Tillis (R-N.C.) said that he hopes to release a draft agreement this week to resolve the ongoing stablecoin yield dispute between banks and crypto firms, according to a Monday report from Politico.

Tillis has reportedly been working with Sen. Angela Alsobrooks (D-Md.) to develop language in the Clarity Act to end the long-standing debate on whether cryptocurrency companies should be allowed to pay interest on idle stablecoin balances.

"I think the language has come together well," Tillis told Politico on Monday, adding that the text may be publicly released later this week if discussions proceed smoothly.

The latest draft proposal from Tillis and Alsobrooks has been viewed by both banking and crypto representatives, and has drawn pushback from banks, according to the report, though the source of the criticism is unclear. Tillis reportedly indicated that he is willing to make further changes.

The debate over stablecoin rewards has become the most contentious issue in the Clarity Act, a long-sought bill to establish comprehensive rules for the digital asset sector. While the GENIUS Act, passed last year, stipulates that stablecoin issuers are banned from paying interest to holders, it does not ban third-party platforms, such as exchanges, from offering yield.

U.S. banks have argued that allowing such rewards would cause a major structural disruption, draining significant deposits away from traditional institutions.

Bitcoin Reaches Final Bull Trap

Following Bitcoin’s rebound over the weekend, a pseudonymous whale and crypto analyst known as NoName shared an update on Bitcoin’s latest price action and what its next moves may be. In a post on X, NoName announced that Bitcoin has recently hit its second and final bull trap since reaching a price peak in 2025.

He shared a video chart showing how the Bitcoin price has moved throughout its ongoing bear market. After a prolonged rally that eventually pushed Bitcoin to an all-time high above $126,700, the market shifted direction and entered a sustained downtrend, marked by multiple corrective waves.

Later during Q1 2026, Bitcoin experienced its first major bull trap. At the time, the price spiked sharply upward, drawing in late buyers and briefly reviving bullish sentiment before quickly reversing and resuming its decline. The move ultimately caught overleveraged traders off guard, leading to significant losses for those who entered near the top.

After this initial trap, the price continued to slide and establish lower price levels before forming its latest bull trap this month. Here, $BTC surged above $72,000 shortly after the US-Iran ceasefire announcement. The rally held for several days, sustaining optimism slightly, before momentum faded and the price retraced back toward the $70,000 level at the time of writing.
