Solv ditches LayerZero for Chainlink CCIP to secure $700+ million in wrapped Bitcoin assetsSolv Protocol, which focuses on bringing Bitcoin into decentralized finance, is migrating its entire cross-chain infrastructure from LayerZero to Chainlink CCIP following a comprehensive review of interoperability security standards, the team said in a May 7 announcement.

The upgrade aims to secure more than $700 million in wrapped Bitcoin assets tied to SolvBTC and xSolvBTC, according to Solv. The move means that Chainlink CCIP will become the protocol’s default cross-chain communication layer on all supported networks.

Built by Solv Protocol, SolvBTC gives Bitcoin holders access to DeFi opportunities without giving up direct $BTC exposure. The protocol also supports cross-chain interoperability and institutional-style Bitcoin yield products through its BTCFi infrastructure.

Solv said repeated bridge-related hacks across the crypto industry reinforced the need for stronger security assurances and lower systemic risk, leading the team to standardize on Chainlink’s infrastructure.

The decision to adopt Chainlink CCIP was driven by its strong security guarantees, decentralized architecture, and growing recognition as one of the most reliable interoperability solutions in the blockchain industry, as noted by the team.

Coinbase shares slide on $400M Q1 loss, revenue missCoinbase shares slid Thursday after the US crypto exchange reported a steep first-quarter loss while revenue missed Wall Street expectations.

Coinbase reported a net loss of $394.1 million in Q1, its second consecutive quarterly loss after reporting a $667 million loss in Q4 2025. It swung from a $65.6 million profit a year earlier.

“Macro conditions were genuinely tough,” Coinbase chief financial officer Alesia Haas told investors on an earnings call. “Total crypto market cap and total crypto trading volume were both down more than 20% quarter-over-quarter.”

Coinbase’s earnings come as other crypto companies have also struggled to turn a profit in the first months of 2026 as a crypto market slump pushed some traders to other investments.

S&P 500 slips from record high as oil rebounds
The S&P 500 slipped on Thursday after briefly touching a fresh all-time intraday high, as oil prices rebounded from earlier losses.

Investors continued to monitor developments surrounding potential negotiations between the United States and Iran.

The benchmark index fell 0.4%, pressured by declines in technology and semiconductor stocks, including Amazon, Broadcom and Micron Technology.

The tech-heavy Nasdaq Composite declined 0.2% after also reaching a new intraday record earlier in the session, while the Dow Jones Industrial Average dropped 356 points, or 0.7%.

Apple shares touched a new all-time intraday high of $290.33 on Thursday, surpassing the previous peak of $288.62 reached in December 2025.

The stock had already posted its first record closing high since December in the prior session, ending Wednesday at $287.51.

Momentum indicators suggest the stock may be approaching overbought territory.

Apple’s 14-day relative strength index stood at around 71.8, according to FactSet data, with readings above 70 typically viewed by traders as overbought conditions.

Oil prices rebound

Oil prices recovered after falling sharply earlier in the session amid optimism around a possible diplomatic breakthrough between Washington and Tehran.

West Texas Intermediate crude futures rose about 1% to trade above $95 per barrel, while Brent crude climbed slightly to above $101 a barrel.

Markets had rallied on Wednesday after Axios reported that the United States and Iran were nearing a one-page, 14-point memorandum of understanding aimed at ending the conflict and laying the groundwork for broader nuclear negotiations.

The report cited US officials and other sources familiar with the discussions.

Bitcoin slips below $80,000: Why the 'Trump rally' is hitting a wall of profit-taking
Bitcoin slipped back below $80,000 on Wednesday after a brief breakout attempt, as onchain data suggested the rally was already running into profit-taking pressure.

CryptoQuant said bitcoin’s 37% rebound from April lows still looks more like a bear-market rally than a confirmed trend reversal, with realized profits hitting their highest level since December and short-term holders increasingly exiting at a gain.

Bitcoin’s rally has pushed traders back into profit, with holders cashing out at the fastest pace since December, as recent buyers increasingly sell into strength, they wrote.

But the rebound still looks more like a relief rally than a true bull-market breakout, since profits remain well below levels seen in past sustained uptrends while unrealized gains are already high enough to tempt more selling, according to CryptoQuant. Traders are also sitting on an 18% unrealized profit margin, the highest since June 2025, a level where profit-taking has historically accelerated.

Singapore-based market maker Enflux offered a different read, focusing less on holder behavior and more on the macro catalyst that drove bitcoin’s initial move higher.
Enflux said bitcoin’s push through the $80,000 level was part of a broader risk-on reaction after President Donald Trump paused a U.S. naval operation tied to tensions around the Strait of Hormuz, a move that sent oil prices lower and lifted equities.

But while Enflux said the rally "makes sense mechanically," it warned markets may be overestimating the durability of the catalyst, noting that previous Trump diplomatic pauses since March either reversed within days or were misread by traders.

Glassnode, however, offered a more constructive view, arguing bitcoin’s recent move reflects an early structural recovery
