Tokenization won't disrupt banking rails but improve them, Wall Street executives say
Miami Beach, FL — Tokenization is not replacing the system overnight, but it is steadily reshaping the plumbing underneath, Wall Street executives said at Consensus 2026 in Miami.
Digital asset leaders from Citi, JPMorgan and DTCC said during a panel discussion that blockchain-based rails are moving into production, with real volumes and real clients shaping how the technology is deployed.
A year ago, Citi's tokenized deposit system was handling millions. "Now we’re moving billions," said Ryan Rugg, who leads digital assets for the bank’s treasury and trade solutions unit.
The demand, she said, is coming from clients who want to move money around the clock, not just during banking hours.

JPMorgan is seeing a similar pattern. Its blockchain platform, Kinexys, has processed more than $1 trillion in transactions, said Kara Kennedy, who leads market development for the bank’s digital assets unit.

The focus is less on building parallel systems and more on stitching blockchain rails into existing infrastructure to enable faster settlement and continuous operations, she said.
DTCC, which sits at the center of U.S. market plumbing, is taking a longer view. The firm is working to bring parts of its $150 trillion securities infrastructure onto a shared digital layer, with initial rollout plans already underway.
"You can’t just replace what exists," said Nadine Chakar, who heads digital assets at DTCC. "This is an evolution."

Bitcoin Dominance jumps 4% as BTC reclaims $80K – What’s next?
Bitcoin [$BTC] has finally crossed the $80,000 resistance level last seen in early February 2026. At press time it was trading at $80,836.16 after a hike of over 20% in the past month.

At the same time, Bitcoin Dominance [$BTC.D] also surged by 4.38% in the past month and was at 61.21%, as per Trading View data. Even when compared to the half-yearly or year-to-date surges, this represents the highest hike recorded.

The move comes after a choppy few weeks in which investors have been trading off between hotter-than-expected inflation prints and strong earnings from mega-cap tech, leaving the major indexes near recent highs but with elevated single-stock dispersion.
Indexes tick up on risk-on open
Early breadth favored cyclical and tech-linked sectors, as storage, semiconductors, and some AI beneficiaries outperformed, while selected consumer and fintech names traded lower on stock-specific news.
Storage stocks extend AI-driven run
Storage concept stocks continued their recent outperformance, led by Micron Technology, which was up around 6% in early trading, alongside SanDisk, higher by roughly 3%, and Western Digital, up about 3.5%.

Earlier in April, memory and storage names saw similar surges—Micron climbing as much as 10% intraday, SanDisk nearly 10%, and Western Digital more than 8%—as markets increasingly treated them as AI infrastructure plays rather than purely cyclical PC components.

Forward Industries, RockawayX back OnRe to build onchain reinsurance on Solan
Investors back a model that moves insurance risk and capital flows onto blockchain rails, as onchain reinsurance looks to attract institutional participation.Forward Industries and crypto investment company RockawayX have co-led a strategic investment in OnRe, a startup building reinsurance infrastructure on the Solana blockchain, in a move aimed at bringing traditional risk-transfer markets onto decentralized rails.

The companies said Tuesday they co-led OnRe’s $5 million Series A round, with Forward planning to allocate up to $25 million into the platform’s yield-bearing token on Solana.

The funding will be used to expand OnRe’s platform and attract more institutional participants to onchain reinsurance, a niche but emerging segment within decentralized finance.

OnRe is attempting to shift parts of the reinsurance market — where insurers offload risk to third parties — onto blockchain infrastructure, using tokenization and smart contracts to manage underwriting and capital flows.

The initiative reflects a broader push to experiment with real-world financial services, including insurance and reinsurance, on blockchain networks, although adoption remains at an early stage.

Forward Industries (FWDI) is the largest corporate holder of Solana (SOL), with more than 7.01 million SOL on its balance sheet, according to industry data. Its Nasdaq-traded shares gained about 5.8% in Tuesday's regular session, according to Yahoo Finance. In after hours activity, at last look, most of that increase evaporated. SOL was last trading hands at $86.61, up about 2.7%.
