Pakistan has lifted its 2018 crypto banking ban, allowing licensed firms access to banking services under strict regulation while still prohibiting banks from directly holding or trading digital assets.

Pakistan's central bank has formally reversed its long-standing ban on banking services for cryptocurrency firms, allowing regulated banks to open accounts for licensed virtual asset service providers (VASPs) under a new legal framework.

The decision, announced in a circular by the State Bank of Pakistan and reported by Reuters, follows the enactment of the Virtual Assets Act 2026 and marks the country's first structured move to integrate digital asset businesses into its formal financial system.

Charles Hoskinson Says 34% of Bitcoin Could Be Stolen by Quantum Computers in 2030s

Charles Hoskinson used a lengthy video address this week to deliver what he described as a long overdue reckoning for Bitcoin maximalists, centred on a quantum computing threat he says is no longer theoretical and a proposed fix he says does not actually work.

As of March 1, 2026, over 34% of all Bitcoin has had its public key exposed on-chain, either through address reuse or legacy pay-to-public-key-hash formats. That represents approximately 8 million Bitcoin that could be stolen by an attacker with a sufficiently powerful quantum computer. Based on current research timelines, Hoskinson places that threat arriving in the 2030s.

“Not hypothetically one magical day in the future when unicorns fart rainbows,” he said. “In the 2030s. Right in front of your face.”

The Proposal That Does Not Solve the Problem

A Bitcoin Improvement Proposal currently circulating, BIP-361, attempts to address the vulnerability by freezing quantum-vulnerable funds and forcing a migration to post-quantum addresses. Hoskinson spent considerable time dissecting why he believes it fails on its own terms.

The proposal claims to be a soft fork. Hoskinson says it is not. It would require a hard fork, something Bitcoin has never done and, by the religion of its maximalist community, never will.

More critically, the proposed zero-knowledge proof recovery system only works for wallets built on the BIP-39 seed phrase standard, which was not introduced until 2013. Approximately 1.7 million Bitcoin, including an estimated 1.1 million belonging to Satoshi Nakamoto, exist in legacy wallet formats that predate this standard. There is no zero-knowledge proof that can recover those coins.

A crypto analyst has highlighted a long-term technical structure in XRP that may be approaching a critical turning point after nearly nine years of consolidation.
According to analyst Ali Martinez, XRP appears to be trading within a long-standing ascending triangle pattern on the monthly chart — a structure that has been forming since 2017.
An ascending triangle is typically defined by a flat resistance level and a rising support trendline. Price tends to oscillate between these two boundaries until a decisive breakout occurs, often leading to a strong directional move.
Martinez noted that XRP has repeatedly been rejected from the upper resistance zone over the years, while continuing to find support along its rising trendline. Most recently, in August 2025, XRP once again failed to break above resistance and has since been gradually moving lower within the pattern.
Based on this structure, the analyst suggests that XRP could revisit the key support region around $0.75–$0.80, which may represent a significant long-term accumulation zone if the pattern continues to hold.
As the triangle approaches its apex, historical TA theory suggests that volatility increases and a breakout becomes more likely. Ascending triangles are generally considered bullish continuation patterns, meaning an upside breakout could be the higher-probability outcome.
“If a 9-year consolidation finally breaks, the move is usually historic,” the analyst noted, adding that XRP’s next major cycle could be substantial if the pattern resolves to the upside.

The Nasdaq index surged by 1.6% and closed higher for an 11th consecutive trading session—its longest winning streak on record—breaking the 24,000-point mark for the first time in its history. Meanwhile, the S&P 500 rose 0.8% to a new all-time high above 7,000 points. The positive momentum on Wall Street has extended to crypto-linked stocks as well. Shares of Coinbase, one of the largest U.S.-based crypto platforms, jumped by 6.2%. On Wednesday morning, Bitcoin again tried to climb above the $75,000 mark. However, buying interest declined at this level, and the price encountered strong resistance once more.

However, Shiba Inu recently printed a golden cross on the 30-minute timeframe, an optimistic sign despite the negative trend. For the uninitiated, this cross happens when the 50-period moving average pushes above the 200-period moving average, signaling that buying momentum is increasing.

The golden crossover occurred on Tuesday, signaling a shift in momentum. At the crossing, SHIB printed its largest green candle of the day on the 30-minute timeframe, rising 1.35%.
Currently, this crossover still holds, even though SHIB has consolidated lower from the intraday high of $0.00000603. This trend could see the meme coin rebound considerably when momentum returns and if the broader market conditions remain favorable.

However, it is worth noting that some analysts view a golden cross as a passive indicator that reflects what has already happened in the market. The crossover on lower timeframes is also tricky, as a death cross can also easily form.

Bitwise launches Avalanche ETF with plans to stake AVAX held
The $11 billion crypto asset manager launched the new fund, ticker symbol BAVA.

Bloomberg ETF analyst James Seyffart called the fund’s $400,000 worth of volume in the first 90 minutes of trading “pretty damn good.”

Bitwise Asset Management, which has $11 billion under management, launched a new Avalanche exchange-traded fund on Wednesday.

The firm intends to stake the AVAX held, according to a statement.

"Avalanche is emerging as one of the leading platforms for businesses, governments, and real-world use cases," Bitwise CIO Matt Hougan said in the statement. "Avalanche's unique structure, which lets users leverage the security and scale of a large network while maintaining flexibility and control, makes it a great landing pad for enterprise-grade onchain applications."

Using Avalanche, developers can "build custom, interoperable blockchains," Bitwise said, noting that AVAX has been used by FIFA, Toyota, and the state of Wyoming for issuing its stablecoin.

Grayscale and VanEck have also launched AVAX exchange-traded funds.

The number of ETFs tracking the price of different altcoins continues to swell under President Trump's administration. Last week, Canary Capital filed to list an ETF giving exposure to the PEPE memecoin.
