A federal judge has ruled that the Trump administration’s termination of hundreds of humanities grants through the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) was unconstitutional and discriminatory. The decision marks a major legal setback for President Donald Trump’s cost-cutting initiative, which was previously led by billionaire Elon Musk.U.S. District Judge Colleen McMahon said the administration violated both the First Amendment and the Fifth Amendment after canceling more than 1,400 humanities grants worth over $100 million in federal funding. The grants had been awarded by the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) to scholars, writers, universities, and cultural organizations across the United States.According to the ruling, DOGE targeted projects connected to minority communities, race, religion, immigration, gender, and sexual orientation. Judge McMahon stated that the government engaged in “blatant viewpoint discrimination” by terminating grants tied to Black, Latino, Asian, Indigenous, Jewish, Muslim, Christian, LGBTQ+, and immigrant-related subjects.The court also criticized DOGE’s reported use of artificial intelligence tools, including ChatGPT, in developing explanations for some of the grant cancellations. Judge McMahon said the federal government could not avoid responsibility by blaming AI-generated recommendations for the decisions.The lawsuit centered on the Trump administration’s broader efforts to reduce federal spending on diversity initiatives, educational programs, arts institutions, and cultural organizations. Bitcoin lenders at Consensus Miami 2026 said crypto lending must look and feel more like traditional banking if it wants institutional capital to keep flowing in.

Bitcoin lenders at Consensus Miami 2026 argued that the future of crypto lending does not lie in making finance more decentralized. It lies in convincing institutional borrowers that bitcoin-backed credit can behave predictably enough to resemble the system they already trust.

Alexander Blume, founder and CEO of Two Prime, said institutional borrowers often reject crypto-native structures not because they oppose bitcoin, but because the operational complexity surrounding DeFi is difficult to justify to boards, risk committees, and shareholders.

“The moment you start trying to explain how any of this stuff works, they’re just like, No… We’ll pay more. Don’t lose my money,” Blume said, capturing the divide between crypto-native structures and institutional risk tolerance. He distilled the gap into a single observation:

“Our whole financial system is set up to have someone else to blame,” arguing that institutions still prefer identifiable intermediaries and standardized processes over fully autonomous financial systems.

Why TradFi standards are reshaping bitcoin credit

Ledn CEO Adam Reeds said the most important question a borrower should ask is “where is your Bitcoin stored.” Lygos CEO Jay Patel added that borrowers now need to “underwrite the lender” before entering any bitcoin-backed credit arrangement.

The panel placed particular weight on rehypothecation, the practice of relending pledged collateral, which Patel called “the biggest point in my mind” and a key driver of the 2022 lending crisis that took down Celsius, Voyager, and BlockFi.

Bitcoin exchange-traded funds have recorded inflows for three consecutive months through May, while gold ETFs are still struggling to recover the outflows that followed the March Iran conflict, according to The Block.

Strategy’s buying pace is the demand engine

The company announced that, thanks to this integration, it has expanded its direct settlement model for payments from crypto assets to fiat currencies on a global scale.

TrustLinq stated that one of the biggest problems in the crypto ecosystem is the complex structure of the conversion processes from cryptocurrencies to fiat currencies. The company explained that when users want to send a payment to a vendor, contractor, landlord, or supplier, they have to go through many intermediaries, including exchanges, custodial accounts, off-ramp providers, sending banks, and correspondent banking checks. TrustLinq was developed to eliminate this chain, the statement added.

As part of the new integration, TrustLinq will now operate on the Ripple Payments infrastructure. AI agents could solve crypto’s user problem

The crypto industry’s embrace of AI is less about chatbots and more about building financial infrastructure for autonomous machines, says Chappy Asel, a former Apple engineer and founder of AI nonprofit The AI Collective.

Speaking at Consensus Miami, Asel, founder of The AI Collective, a global nonprofit AI community with more than 200,000 members across 150+ chapters, argued that as software agents increasingly make economic decisions on behalf of users and businesses, they will need payment systems capable of handling low-latency, programmable transactions at scale.

“When agents make the majority of financial decisions, economic decisions, how do they transact with each other?” Asel said during the panel. “You want them to be highly systematic, mechanistic. You want very small, micro transactions. You want very low latency.”

Asel, who previously worked on Apple’s Vision Pro and early Apple Intelligence efforts before launching The AI Collective, framed the convergence of crypto and AI through a practical lens.

“The number one thing that I've heard kind of throughout this conference... even my friends who only know about AI, they know nothing about blockchain, is they've heard about agentic payments,” he said.

Stablecoins already offer 24/7 settlement and smart contracts allow programmable execution. Marrying them together is the only logical way agentic payments — without a human in the middle — can become mainstream.

Still, the thesis remains early. AI agents are still nascent, and many companies today rely on centralized APIs and conventional payment systems. Attempts to build “agentic payments” infrastructure have so far generated little meaningful commercial activity, suggesting the narrative may be developing faster than actual demand.
