CryptoSlate's Bitcoin page shows BTC near $80,200 on May 9, with a market capitalization near $1.61 trillion and an all-time high of $126,198 set on Oct. 6, 2025.

A move to $200,000, another price target being batted around lately, would require Bitcoin to rise roughly 2.5 times from that level. Cardano Faces a Strange Setup: Possible ADA ETF Approval; Weak Price Action

Cardano is sitting on one of the most interesting paradoxes in crypto right now — a credible ETF timeline building overhead, and a price chart that hasn’t noticed yet.

CME $ADA futures went live on February 9, 2026 — starting the mandatory six-month regulated futures clock required before a spot ETF can be approved under the SEC’s new generic listing standards framework.

The clock is ticking. The market, for the most part, is still asleep.

The ETF Timeline Is More Concrete Than Most Realise
August 9, 2026 is the date $ADA becomes eligible for the streamlined ETF approval process.

If Grayscale or NYSE Arca activates its filing on that date, the SEC has a maximum 75-day review window — putting a final decision deadline at October 23, 2026.

Firms like Bitwise and Canary Capital are also pushing for Cardano ETFs, meaning late 2026 could see multiple $ADA ETF launches simultaneously.

Grayscale has already increased $ADA’s allocation inside its Smart Contract Fund — from 17.96% to 18.33% — while reducing Ethereum exposure.

The Leios Public Testnet is scheduled for June 2026, targeting over 1,000 transactions per second.

The Midnight Mainnet — Cardano’s privacy-focused sidechain for confidential smart contracts — is also set for Q2 2026. The development pipeline is real.

The institutional positioning is happening. The price just hasn’t followed — yet.

The six-month mark doesn’t trigger automatic approvals. It opens a window where exchanges can list spot $ADA trusts under generic standards without filing separate rule changes.

Issuers still need effective S-1 registrations. The real tell between now and August 9 is whether spot $ADA ETF S-1 filings start appearing — signalling that issuers are lining up to launch the moment the threshold clears.

Crypto exchange Coinbase (Nasdaq: COIN) disclosed through Coinbase Support that a May 7 outage disrupted core trading services after failures spread through Amazon Web Services (AWS) infrastructure. Around 8 p.m. ET, Coinbase systems flagged high error rates across multiple services before tracing the disruption to failures tied to an AWS availability zone in the US-EAST-1 Region.

The crypto firm noted its systems were designed to withstand a single-zone outage and recover quickly, but the disruption expanded beyond the exchange’s expected single-zone recovery conditions. Users experienced trading interruptions while AWS teams worked to restore temperature controls and related Amazon Managed Services. Coinbase Support stated in a May 8 post on X:

“We observed failures impacting multiple AWS zones, which caused an extended outage of core trading services.”

The outage followed the crypto exchange’s May 7 first-quarter earnings release, which highlighted record crypto trading volume market share, $202 billion in quarterly trading volume, and annualized retail derivatives revenue above $200 million. The Nasdaq-listed crypto firm also reported $294 billion in assets held on the platform during the quarter.

Earlier updates from Coinbase linked the disruption to increased temperatures in the affected Availability Zone, use1-az4. The company said trading would be re-enabled gradually by first placing all markets into “Cancel Only” mode before restoring full trading access. Coinbase later posted at 3:48 a.m. on May 8 that all markets had been re-enabled for trading on Coinbase Exchange.

The net loss is largely due to the impact of crypto on Trump Media’s balance sheet, even though Bitcoin remains a pillar of its financial strategy. This discrepancy illustrates the direct impact of digital assets on its results.

Digital assets heavily impacted the accounts, with $244 million in unrealized losses related to crypto holdings.

At the end of March, the company held 9,542.16 Bitcoin, with a cost basis of $1.13 billion and a fair value of $647.1 million.

Part of the BTC reserves serve as collateral, while Trump Media continues developing its media, financial, and streaming activities.

The Trump Media & Technology group generated $871,200 in revenue in the first quarter. This amount marks a 6% increase compared to $821,200 recorded a year earlier. Media activities generated $810,100, while Truth.Fi contributed $61,100 in management fees related to ETF offerings.
These losses mainly stem from the group’s exposure to digital assets. Trump Media announced, in a document filed with the SEC, $244 million in unrealized losses on its crypto holdings. The company also recorded an investment loss of $108.2 million, mainly related to equity securities.

This accounting treatment explains the gap between revenues and net income. Digital assets must be regularly revalued, even when they are not sold. Thus, crypto can heavily impact quarterly accounts, especially when prices fall.
