Altcoin rotation or cycle? Here’s why USDT dominance may hold the answer

The market is currently exhibiting a textbook rotation phase.

On the technical side, Bitcoin dominance (BTC.D) has logged four straight days of downside pressure after its early May breakout to 61.2%. At the same time, the Altcoin Season Index has jumped by more than 10 points in less than 24 hours, reinforcing a classic BTC-to-altcoin rotation setup.

Historically, however, altcoin rallies rarely sustain momentum unless Ethereum [ETH], the largest altcoin, starts gaining strength against Bitcoin [BTC], allowing deeper capital to flow across the broader altcoin market.

As the chart below shows, the ETH/BTC ratio has rebounded around 0.7% after four consecutive weeks of decline. This could be an early sign that rotation might be expanding beyond Bitcoin.

Bored Ape Yacht Club (BAYC) non-fungible tokens are surging again, fueling hopes of a broader revival in the battered $NFT market as speculative appetite returns across crypto.

Floor prices, or the lowest value for the flagship Yuga Labs collection, have climbed from around 5 $ETH to 10 $ETH over the past month, while apecoin (APE), the ecosystem’s governance token, has also rallied from below $0.10 to about $0.16 with a sharp increase in trading volumes.

The rebound comes as memecoins and other high-risk crypto assets are outperforming more defensive sectors such as decentralized finance (DeFi), suggesting retail traders are perhaps returning to the market after months of subdued activity.

For Yuga Labs' newly appointed CEO, Michael Figge, the rally reflects more than short-term hype.

“It’s clear from the numbers that for some time, as far as blue-chip digital collectibles go, it was oversold,” Figge told CoinDesk in an interview. “You had this huge compression in price, but if you actually look at an overlay graph, unique holders were actually up.”

Figge, who has held various executive roles at Yuga Labs since 2022, before taking over as CEO last month, argued that $NFT prices had become disconnected from user participation during the prolonged downturn.“A cynic will say prices doubled and the unique holder count didn’t double,” he said. “But that’s really just recovery from a period where things fell disproportionately.”The rebound also comes alongside a broader reassessment of digital art and onchain ownership beyond short-term price speculation. All Ripple Roads Lead Up? Analyst Maps 3 Bullish Outcomes for XRP
Here's how XRP can skyrocket by at least 1,000%Although most of the market saw notable gains over the past few weeks, with BTC surging to a multi-month peak at almost $83,000, Ripple’s cross-border token couldn’t really mimic the rally and was rejected at $1.45.

Since then, the bears have resumed control, pushing it below $1.40, which allowed BNB to retake its position as the fourth-largest cryptocurrency by market cap.

Yet, popular analyst EGRAG CRYPTO remains highly bullish on XRP’s long-term future and laid out three different scenarios. Interestingly, all of them envision quadruple-digit gains.

The XXXX% Road Ahead
The recent X post from EGRAG, titled “which historical EMA ribbon move is most likely,” begins with a brief history lesson, suggesting that XRP has typically exploded “after reclaiming and expanding away from the EMA Ribbon.” In the three past cycles cited by the analyst, the asset rocketed by 2,400%, 1,000%, and 1,250%, respectively.

Although all of these predictions seem quite bullish at the moment, EGRAG believes one stands out as the most probable based on the current macro structure, liquidity conditions, cycle maturity, and realities of market cap expansionIt’s the middle scenario, which foresees a 1,250% price pump for XRP. According to EGRAG, it has a 50-55% chance of materializing as it “aligns best with current cycle structure and broader market conditions.”

The 1,000% move has a smaller 30-35% probability chance, while the wildcard 2,400% prediction is the least probable, with 10-15% odds

The market punished optimism hard. LUNC price action also weakened after losing channel support. The 4-hour chart shows a clear breakdown. A sharp rejection near $0.00011534 handed control to sellers. Price then slid toward the $0.00008000 demand zone. Buyers tried to defend that area. Candles still showed instability around support. The market structure no longer signals continuation. The ascending channel break shifts focus lower.

Traders now eye the $0.00007000 level. That region marks the next major support on the chart. Unless buyers reclaim the channel fast, bears keep control. Momentum indicators back the bearish case. Directional Movement Index data confirmed seller strength. ADX climbed to 49.9905. That reading shows a strong trend.

Arbitrum [$ARB] extended its bullish momentum over the past 24 hours, climbing 13% even as on-chain liquidity across the network continued to deteriorate.

While the broader crypto market has recently shifted toward a stronger risk-on environment, $ARB’s rally appears increasingly disconnected from underlying liquidity conditions.

Instead of being supported by fresh capital inflows into the ecosystem, the move is largely being driven by spot market demand and short-term accumulation activity.

That divergence now places the asset in a vulnerable position as it approaches a critical supply-heavy resistance zone that could determine whether the rally sustains or reverses.

Arbitrum’s recent price expansion has not been matched by growth in key on-chain liquidity metrics. Both Total Value Locked (TVL) and stablecoin supply across the network have continued to decline, reflecting weakening capital participation within the ecosystem.

TVL, which tracks the total amount of assets locked across decentralized finance protocols on the network, often serves as a measure of investor confidence and ecosystem activity. Sustained declines typically indicate capital rotation away from the chain.

Since tje 18th of April, approximately $449 million has exited Arbitrum’s TVL. The scale of the outflow suggests that broader market conviction around the ecosystem remains fragile despite $ARB’s recent upside.

Data also showed TVL slipping by an additional 0.24% over the past 24 hours to roughly $1.57 billion at the time of writing.

Stablecoin liquidity has followed a similar trend. Since May 1, more than $1 billion in stablecoins has reportedly moved out of the Arbitrum network, highlighting a broader reduction in deployable capital across the chain.
