Bhutan moves another $18 million in bitcoin as tracked holdings continue to shrink: Arkham
The Royal Government of Bhutan moved another 250 BTC worth about $18 million to a newly created wallet, according to Arkham data.

It total holdings now stand at roughly 3,774 BTC, down sharply from a 2024 peak near 13,000 BTC.

The transfer adds to a steady stream of outflows from government-linked wallets this year.

The Royal Government of Bhutan has moved another 250 BTC, worth about $18 million, to a newly created wallet, extending a run of outflows from state-linked addresses this year and following a similar transfer reported earlier this week.

Data tracked by Arkham shows Bhutan has now moved roughly $233.75 million worth of bitcoin out of its known holding addresses in 2026.

The country’s remaining holdings have fallen to around 3,774 BTC, valued at approximately $272.5 million at current prices.

At its peak in October 2024, Bhutan held close to 13,000 BTC, which puts the scale of the drawdown at over 70%, as The Block previously reported.

The purpose of the latest transfer is not immediately clear.

Bhutan's bitcoin assets are managed by Druk Holding and Investments, the country’s sovereign investment arm. Druk has also overseen Bhutan’s mining and accumulation strategy in recent years.

Large movements from government-linked wallets are often associated with potential asset sales, though no official confirmation has been provided. The Block has reached out to Druk Holding and Investments for comment.

Bitcoin traded above $72,000 at the time of writing, up more than 1.3% over the past 24 hours, per The Block’s BTC price page. The asset remains about 43% below its all-time high near $126,000 reached in October 2025.

Reuters reported on Thursday that the White House sent the internal email on March 24, a day after Trump ordered a five-day delay in attacks on Iran’s energy infrastructure.

The warning followed a roughly $500 million bet on Brent and West Texas Intermediate crude futures placed in a one-minute burst shortly before Trump’s March 23 announcement, according to Reuters calculations based on exchange data. Oil prices fell about 15% after the policy shift.

The episode has intensified scrutiny of whether officials or politically connected traders could profit from nonpublic information tied to military or policy decisions. It has also added momentum to a broader push in Washington to tighten rules around prediction-market trading.

The STOCK Act amendment in the Commodity Exchange Act (CEA) prohibits federal officials, congress members, executive staff and judicial officers from using non-public information derived from their positions to trade commodity, futures or options markets. The amendment was signed into law on April 4, 2012.
